Wild mushrooms in my yard.

These mushrooms came up in my yard quickly; then melted when the sun came out. Can anyone identify them please ? I have never seen this kind before. The University of Georgia said they were not allowed to identify them because there was too much liability if some one ate them.

Your picture looks really close to the mushrooms that grow near my house I looked them up recently and found one that was close to ours. Leucocoprinus birnbaumii is the name and what I found out is that it won't hurt you, unless you eat it. It won't hurt your plant. It won't hurt your pets or your children, unless they eat it

I first contacted the University of Georgia and asked them for an identification. They said their rule was not to identity mushrooms because of the liability involved. The Mushroom Society of Georgia however did identify them for me. They reportedly are called Copernicus or inky caps. species: Corinus plicatus, genus Pseudopritnus. Take your choice however, they are poisonous. when ingested

They look more like flowers than fungi, but very interesting. It's a sad commontary on the university when litigation trumps education. Tsk,tsk...
