I've tried using my 9.5" iPad pro to edit photos via LR and PS. I've tried using the tablet as the actual "monitor" (meaning I had the file on the iPad and used the LR and PS apps) and also as a graphics tablet with the apple pencil using astropad.. IMHO neither is very satisfactory.
Perhaps if you have the larger iPad pro????

I'm thinking of going down the iPad Pro route myself, but am waiting to see what upgrades Apple bring to the range in 2017.

I use an iMac 27" at the home office for Lightroom etc, and store images on external hard drives, cloud back up, SmugMug and other places.

However when traveling I use an iPad Air2. I gave up using laptops a while ago as they seemed to be duplicating both the iPad and the iMac. In the field I transfer images from the camera to the iPad using either wifi or an Apple card reader. I can do on the fly adjustments, and uploading to social sites (many clients want images posted immediately - I'm in the tourism industry). I then import the photos to Lightroom Mobile, which in turn uploads to creative cloud, depending on the internet speed available. If I have storage issues, I keep the images either on the memory cards and/or dump them onto a Sandisc iXtreme Drive.

I find the iPad Air2 is ideal for post production, and indeed I can do things on it I struggle with on the iMac (user limitations rather than hardware/software!). I like the idea of the iPad Pro 12" with the Apple Pencil.

It's all tools for the job of course, and for me the combination of camera, iPad, iMac, creative cloud, iXtreme Dive works.

usnpilot... Apple makes an adapter that allows you to read the pictures directly from the SDcard used in your camera.

The files are directly imported into your main folder after you select which ones to import.

Really appreciate your help. Wife and I both have 12.8 iPad Pro and just want a vehicle for sharing photos.

I have Photoshop Express on my iPad Air 2. Its capabilities for image editing are quite limited. It has what amounts to pre-sets that do one thing one way. Extensive image editing is best done on a computer with a capable sodtware. I have Photoshop CS4 which is good enough for me and there are other software products depending on your computer platform.

I can understand the laptop. I usually hook mine up to a 24" monitor when I am using it at home for editing. That is rarely though as I also haver a 27" iMac witha 5k Retina display.

OK, I have never had anything I wanted/needed to PP that fast. But I am sure that now I have said it my old buddy Murphy will hit me with at least one just to see me break down and cry or something.

I am not a pro and never will likely be one, I shoot because I enjoy it. I use my 256GB iPad Pro to edit my images while I am traveling. I can always edit it again when I am home and use my 27" iMac but sometimes you really want to see what you have captured before you are heading home. Is it the best machine for the job, probably no and I wouldn't want to be using it for images I was being paid to take, but for my needs it works well. I use an adapter that allows me to insert my SD card and directly transfer. My camera is a Pentax K-3 so the files are not small and the transfer time isn't excessive. If you use a third party device to transfer the images be prepared to wait a long time. Apple also makes a camera connection kit with allows you to use a USB cable to connect the camera to the iPad. Neither are cheap but then neither was the iPad or the camera. The difference between transfer speeds makes the third party adapters a poor investment.

Couldn't disagree more. I have edited many photos on an iPad and my MacBook with no difficulty. If your eyes are bad, then maybe not!

It's relatively easy to edit photos on your iPad syncing through LR after you initially get it set up and used the editing process. I usually do this when traveling, so I don't have to bust out the laptop while on the road. And I'm doing this on my iPad mini.
