I've noticed that some folks here have made negative comments about some of the Nikkor lenses on this forum. I have a number of older Nikkor AF and AF-D lenses, both primes and zooms. I have noticed an improvment in the IQ of some of my photos as a result of updating the firmware in my Nikon cameras, both DX and FX. I'm sure many of you may have done this already but for those of you that have not, here's what you can do step by step:
1) Go to nikonusa.com
2) click on Service & Support
3) click on Firmware Updates
4) click on DSLR cameras
5) click on your camera
6) click on Distortion Control Data
You can see the lenses that are supported by this firmware upgrade that might be useful to you
7) click download if you want this upgrade for your Nikon DSLR
I hope this will help some folks here that did not know this was available and Happy New Year. chase
P.S. I don't work for Nikon, I've just used their stuff for 40+ years.........
Good advice. I just updated the camera firmware and the lens distortion control software on all our cameras a week ago. It sounds a little scary the first time you do it but it is actually very easy.

Chase4,
I updated the firmware in my Nikon about two years prior, is this a new update or did my update take care of the one you are describing?
Thanks
Dave

Dave - You should take a look for your model of camera. Many of these updates were within the last six months and include more lenses supported than the previous updates. chase
Thank you. I needed this post.
Thank you. I needed this post.
I just did it. Thanks a lot.
Thanks for the tip. I was out of date!

Great suggestion for everyone. I do this about every 6 months for all of my Nikon bodies. Occasionally, there are Nikon lens firmware updates that may have to be done by Nikon or a Nikon authorized repair center.
They have a recent one for the 200-500 mm F5.6 for free.
I am having an issue, my D750 will not show the update, it just shows the "DONE"
I have done updates before.
I have a Mac, and what I see that may be different is that my version to load onto the formatted SD card has a .cpgz at the end, in other words it is listed as NKLD0215.BIN.cpgz
Does that change anything and is your download say the same version?
My (L) version in the camera is 2.009
I dragged the NKLD0215.BIN.cpgz as a separate item and not in the DCIM folder, I even tried removing the DCIM folder
I formatted the SD Card originally and even did it again a second time.
I inserted the SD Card in Slot #1
I always look to myself as the problem, so any help that you can provide is appreciated
Thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg - I was able to successfully update my D7000 and D610, I do not have a D750. I have a Mac also and the upgrades have always worked well for me. My iMac is older, early 2009 and I am limited to running OS X El Capitan V 10.11.6 - hence two suggestions for you:
1) Make sure your memory card is formatted only in your camera and,
2) Make sure you use the Nikon download for Mac and follow those instructions (not sure if they are up to the latest OS X Sierra?)
Hope this helps you. chase
The product description for the update does show macOS Sierra version 10.12.
So that is not the issue.
Yes, I did format the card in the D750.
Hopefully another member has some other thoughts,
Greg
