It's a paranoid world we live in. In some cases, rightfully so. But, I trust B&H, Adorama et al. They stand behind their sales. Others????

Oh boy! This is how that brand new camera becomes a refurbished camera from the factory. We need more customers like you so that more refurbs become available at a discount.

Yes. Like Nikon D7200s for $789.

Thanks for sharing your experience... I may misunderstand.. I already returned the item for refund... I may mess up... Thanks again.

It's called living an experience. We learn from it.

There is always a list of the correct included contents of the box. It is there to allow you to insure that nothing is missing. Duhh

Yes, when you purchase directly from a store, you can match up the contents with the included list. However, if you purchase on line it then too late to look for what is missing if you purchased from one of those gonifs. Duh!

I always wondered why they aren't sealed. Seems like a good way to send used equipment as new.
Did the manufacturers ever explain why the boxes aren't sealed?

There is a lot of advice on this forum that if you are not sure what model to buy is to purchase both and after trying them to just return one.

Is that the reason the manufacturers make it difficult to access the shutter mileage?

Seems the best way to be sure is to buy direct from the manufacturer.

A new camera should be in a sealed box. An open box to me is an open box, not a new camera. An open box mandates a lower price and many times it is called refurbed.
B&H is a reputable dealer. If I buy a new camera from them and the camera comes to me in an open box I immediately will contact them requiring an explanation.
I will not accept an open box unless a decent discount is offered.

Just got a Sony A6000 yesterday from B&H. Box was not sealed (i.e. no shrink-wrap) but hadn't been opened.

Then you're not gonna be buying much in the way of camera equipment.

The reason they're not sealed is so the dealer can inspect the product to make sure it's in good condition with nothing missing. I have never received a camera body in a sealed box. I have never received a camera lens in a sealed box. If you've bought camera equipment in a sealed box then it was done at the store. I have Nikon, Minolta, Olympus and Kodak cameras and multiple lenses. I cannot recall even one item bought in a store or on line that came in a sealed product box. You are either lying or mistaken...either way, you're wrong and you're misleading a photography newbie who asked for help. There's no reason for that.

Camera boxes typically do NOT come factory sealed. I know that Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Hasselblad and Olympus definitely do not factory seal their boxes, I suspect the other few brands do not either.
