So, I'm in the middle of reading a post and suddenly some unseen ad starts playing (video) somewhere on the page, complete with irritating sound. So, I quickly kill my browser to stop the irritating interruption to my reading.

How do you deal with this?

Agreed, but I'd still scan your drive for malware as an assurance.

I do that too. Nothing like having some "inappropriate" ad start playing audio when your wife is walking by. This is known as a "drive-by-porning."
My problem with UHH ads is that unless you have a very fast computer, these ads freeze UHH pages, along with the annoying "This application has stopped responding" and "Do you want to close the browser and reopen your tabs" messages.

If that happens to you, then please send me a PM and let me know. I might be able to tweak some settings for your account.

Thanks, Folks! Appreciate your input. Installed the Chrome extension and it seems to work fine.
