I'm confused. Doesn't having three locking controls on a ballhead defeat the purpose of a ballhead? I thought the single locking control was a big advantage.

All ball heads have at least 2 Jerry. One that locks the ball in place and the other one for rotating the head. The third lock may be the Swiss Arca plate lock. There has to be a way to secure the camera to the head so that one could be considered the third lock control.

The more levers/knobs/button are more attractive to males. This means there is more things to move/turn/push that will make something work or they are just more ways we can get into trouble using these tools.

It's a common disease called, "Fiddleitis." The more things a man has to fiddle with, the happier he is.

I concur with Jeep_Daddy!
Having at least 2 locks on that configuration should give you smooth horizontal panning it would seem.
I didn't see a third lock. Perhaps you mean that red button with the peace sign (Manfrotto Logo?)

No, you always have several locking controls on ball heads. There is obviously the main lock for the ball, then you have a lock for panning and you should have a separate tension control too, for customizing your rig to the ball head. The only time I have not been missing the tension control is on my ball head from PMG and it's oversized main lock!

Silly Jerry, it has "pro" right in the name. You know it has to be good, don't question it.
