Mounting Plates

I know that this may have been discussed before but will ask any way.
I am looking for a mounting plate that will be acceptable to both Swiss-Arc and Manfrotto receivers
I would preferably like to leave it in place on both camera and lenses that require that
The Manfrotto in question is the same as mounted on 322RC
I currently have a CSLR M Plate Pro monut on the 5D iii
Which I do like as it enables me to have both a shoulder strap and wrist strap at the same time and still mount it on a tripod
I cannot use it on my Manfrotto tripod unless I remove it completely which is a pain
Any suggestions?

Unless I am mistaken the two are completely different. ARCA-SWISS is basically flat, while Manfrotto is stepped one side higher than the other isn't it?

I use Arca-Swiss plates on my cameras and long lenses, ARCA-SWISS clamps on both tripods/ballheads and monopod.

There are several plates that are designed to allow sling type straps to be used on the camera if connected by the tripod socket - or you can go with camera lug mounted straps of course.

While Manfrotto has recently been making heads with Acra Swiss compatible plates, their own style plates are not compatible!!

This issue is exactly why I get so many requests to convert Manfrotto heads to Arca compatible mounts. There is just no easy, or cheap, path to compatibility between the two.

Sorry, you'll have to select one system and switch to it. Arca-Swiss is used by many vendors, the Manfrotto only by one.

Peak Design has an arca style and RC2 compatible plate

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1096749-REG/peak_design_pl_pp_1_proplate_a_for_manfrotto.html

it does need to be modified

Not sure if this is the same plate

The answer is not really. You can get an Arca Swiss clamp to attach to a Manfrotto plate. I use all Arca Swiss compatible lens and camera plates, and L brackets. I also use a Manfrotto 393 gimbal head. I purchased one of these:

http://www.hejnarphotostore.com/product-p/f66.htm

and attached it to the Manfrotto plate. Works like a charm.

I've been meaning to ask something similar for a while. Does the same apply to Giotto's (MH652) ball head?

I had the same quest and it has been satisfied - Nodal Ninja's U3 mounting plate works on my Nikon D180, 750 and 7100. Here's the link describing them:
http://shop.nodalninja.com/plates/

The only draw back is that the mounting holes are at the side edges rather than the center. But this is not, in my mind, a disqualifying issue.

I used a dedicated conversion kit from Hejnar Photo to swap out the clamp on my 327RC2. It is excellent and IMO really the best way to go by far. This will work with a 322RC ball head as well if that’s what you’re looking to do.

Try this. I use one and it works well for me.
