I think you are right on both counts but don't rule out the Vettes from running neck and neck or even ahead on the track.

Yeah, and they were heavy, so they would "hold the road." :D

Even as a kid, I thought it made no sense when adults wanted a heavy car so it would hold the road.

So true and you could work on the engines yourself and, at least, see the engine.

I saw an article in the paper yesterday about that car. It's a beauty. 600HP. I'd love to take that for a spin. I'll see if I can borrow Talladega Speedway for a few days. You bring the Ford up. Shouldn't take you long to get there. Try to keep it under 200mph. The Alabama State Troopers get pissed if you get over about 140mph. No sense of humor.

I'm tempted, but the insurance cost would be too high. :D

Go for the Mega-Million or Powerball. The Florida lottery is only $17 million right now. Hardly enough to live on.

I agree. I had one. If was, in fact, the last Ford I cared to own.

The T-bird in American Graffiti was my favorite. The on with the porthole windows. The remake several years ago was pretty sharp. Here's a good link to T-birds.

Actually, the best fantasy shot in "American Graffiti".

I did some paint work on this loverly turquoise '55, and when the owner came to pick it up, I had this in the driver window. He guffawed with glee.

That model in a comfortable was my first car in 1964. Didn't know much about cars then, but that one made me a Chevy guy from then on.
It cost $300 then. A 4 year old car today holds its value so much better.

That's not the same model as the one in AG is it? I thought that one had the porthole windows.

No... it's not. I believe that car was white, a 1957 (short fins) and had the portholes.... you are correct.

That shot in AG did, however, give me a flutter.

Nope, it was white... a 55, and had portholes.

See the clip from American Grafitti.

Also note the Edsel driven by Ron Howard and his date Cindy Williams. (Laverne and Shirley). An identical edsel is parked in a driveway on a street heading to downtown... probably about a decade now.

I'd love to have the '55. I'd also like to have the original Datsun 240 Z. I think they called it 1970 1/2. I've owned three Z cars. The 300 I bought was a dog. Not much of a true sports car.

Correctomundo...70 1/2 and the best Z car hands down. The 2+2 styling spoiled the lines of the car. I painted two 240's, a white one and a black one for friends. near most fun you could have at the time on 4 wheels.
