What a great sketch
.! Thanks so much, Brian
Here is aTRUE STORY: Working in West Hollywood, three of us were having lunch on the steps of Schwab's pharmacy at Sunset Bl. & Doheny Drive.
As we were sitting there, Jonathan Winters and his manager walk past, and he (Winters) looked at us and said: "Is dis da place?" and then proceeded to point to Hamburger Hamlet up the block and said pointing to it, "That aint da place
biggest rip-off in L.A." and walked on
.It hit me then, all the things you want to say to someone like Winters and never get to say because you are dumbstruck.
About 5 minutes later, he and his mgr. came walking back
.And me, blurted out as he got to us, said: "Hey Jonathan, How's everything in Gaarbaage
?" (He had just done the Glad Bag adds for TV
)
He stopped, and for 20 minutes stood in front of us and gave us a garbage monologue. We were holding our sides from laughing. Some people came out of Schwab's to listen. But it was all meant for us.
I never got over it
.For a personality like him to stop and talk for 20 minutes to the 3 of us was unbelievable.
Rich
Really, really funny. Thanks for that.

br H... (
show quote)
Thanks for that Rich. I remember Schwab's on the Strip. Rumors are that quite a few "starlets" were discovered there. I Remember eating in the first Hamburger Hamlet in Westwood Village back in the 60's and the late Lee Marvin was eating in a booth a couple up from me. Also saw a number of actors and singers in Shelley's Manne Hole and in PJ's. Also drove by many of the stars as they were either entering or exiting the Bel Aire area. Fun days. :-D
