I got an email today for the Eubanks Funeral Home, telling me about a service being held on Friday for "a dear friend." By coincidence, a friend did pass away just last week, but the Eubank Funeral Home did not enter into the picture.

According to snopes.com, this is new malware. If you open it, you will download a zip file. If you unzip that file, your computer will be infected. Beware!

Okay, so you get a bogus email with a link, then you click on the link, then you download the zip file, then you unzip the zip file, then you execute the exe file contained in the zip file, and then you wonder why you got a virus? And you do all this before you have the deceased person’s name? Wow.

This is a prime example of why computers get infected. It's not based on the strength of your virus protection program or because you purchased a PC instead of a Mac; this is about behavior. The message here is for people to think before they click.

No, it makes perfect sense. You get an email from a funeral home you never heard of, telling you that a close friend has died. In order to find out which friend and when and where the service will be held, you have to open the zip file. Simple.

I want a virus program that prevents me from doing those stupid things. I also want a program that keeps me from making stupid purchases - and one that keeps me from wasting my time watching stupid shows on TV. :D

I got another notice today, my third since yesterday. I clicked on the link and got "Access denied."

I still think it's a stretch. An email from a funeral home urging me to click a link and then download a file to find out which one of my "close friends" has died has scam written all over it. Okay, you made my point perfectly clear---you can't fix stupid. Thus, viruses, stupid purchases and wasting time in front of the TV are all behavioral issues.

I guarantee within the next few posts, someone is going to say: "See, that's why I bought a Mac..." If this happens, I'm going to scream, fall over my dog, crack my head open and die. Then, UHH members will be notified via email that a "close friend" of theirs just died. So to save you from getting a virus, I'm telling right now who it is so you don't click on the link---it's me. :-)

Thanks for being my "close friend". Would you still care if I were just an acquaintance? :-)

Is this the virus that defrosts your refrigerator, poisons your fish tank, impregnates your dog, fills your hard drive with clown porn, and gives you swine flu?
