I just preordered the tamron 150-600 .Since I will never be able to justify or afford a canon 600,I thought this might be worth a try.It won't ship until jan 17 or so. I was wondering if any one has heard anything about this lens? BH has a 30day return policy as many of you know and I thought what the heck for $1069 it might be a great deal or real POS. Thanks for your comments!

I have the Nikon and the Canon version on pre-order also. I will be adding them to my rental inventory if they prove worth the price. If not, then they will both get returned and I will keep the Sigma 150-500's.

MT,

When you get these lenses what camera will you be testing them with?

That depends on what I have available in the inventory at the time, but the Nikon will be my personal D800E and the Canon will likely be the 6D as I almost always have one.

Just make sure when your lens arrives that you read the manual and check out the Silkypix software to ensure complete compatibility and focus exactness with your camera model. I also have been drooling over the possibility of buying this lens. I will wait a few more months at least though so I can see the reviews (I mostly turn to dpreview.com and the-digital-picture.com for my info on lenses and how they perform, especially the latter in real-world scenarios. Brian (the webmaster and photographer, does a great job with his reviews [the latter site].) I will also read customer reviews on B&H when a product has some posted -weighting the reviews by the professional and semi-pro users a little heavier than the average photog...) Just my take on matters. Based on the lenses that Tamron has been introducing lately, and considering this latest offering is a direct assualt on the "big Sig", I would say it's probably going to be a good lens. Now, for the price point and the fact that it is a zoom, it will not compete with Canon's big L glass primes 200 thru 800, nor even their new 200-400mm 2.8L zoom with the built in 1.4x extender, but that lens is $12,000.00 as is the spendiness of all other Canon super-telephoto L glass...even used.

MT,

The 6D, being a FF would be a good choice. Besides, it is one of the cameras I own, yea! I will be watching for your review. Sense I own a Sigma 500mm f4.5 prime it is going to have be a good lens to really tempt me but, especially sense I can use a 1.4X with the 500mm. You never know though, it would be a gain of 140mm.
