I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 RT (Dell Studio Laptop). I run PS CS5 and LR 4.4. My Nik Software plug-ins now no longer work. I have contacted Nik but no response yet. Anyone else having this problem?

Microsoft just keeps making our lives better and better!

There are also compatability problems with some Nikon software.

I have upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1 with no problems. I do not use Photoshop, so cannot comment on that. I am using Lightroom 4 with all the latest updates, but not Light Room 5. I have several NIK plugins and they all work in Lightroom same as before upgrade with no problems. All the NIK plugins I use also have their latest upgrades if that matters and maybe something you should check. Upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 was painless for me and has had no effect on any software that I was using before. The difference may be I am using a desktop and monitor that does not have a touch screen. Prior to installing Win 8 on the computer, I was using Win Vista originally and after installing Win 8, I had some issues with screen blacking out during videos. That issue was traced to a graphics card. After upgrading the graphics card with a new card having more capability the issue went away. Not sure if any of this helps. Good luck.

I don't have Nik, but I just bought a laptop and have the same issue with Lightroom 4. It runs but is limited to what it will do on the laptop.

It appears that the problem is with Windows 8.1 RT which is a special version of 8.1 specifically for laptops. I heard that MS has withdrawn 8.1 RT from its upgrade site because of numerous problems. In my case, I believe the problem is the video card driver on the laptop. I have 8.1 installed on a desktop as well and no problems with Nike on the desktop.

How does Nikon have anything to do with this issue?

The Nikon software that comes with the camera, I think, is misbehaving under 8.1.

The software in question is not the one that comes with a camera; either Nikon or canon

Here is the list of software with which Nikon has indicted Windows 8.1 will not support:

- Capture NX Ver. 1.x
- Camera Control Pro Ver. 1.x
- Nikon Capture series
- ViewNX Ver. 1.x
- Nikon Transfer Ver. 1.x
- PictureProject
- Nikon View series
- Nikon Scan series
- PictureProject COOLPIX Remote Control
- WT-3 Setup Utility
- Wireless Camera Setup Utility
- Wireless Connecting Utility
- Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0
- my Picturetown Utility
- USB driver for GP-1
- Image Authentication Software
- PC-PJ Transfer
- Uplink Software
- Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 Complete Edition
- Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 Select Edition

It appears to be mostly older versions of software. That is understandable as older software cannot be kept compatible indefinitely with new versions of Windows.

My experience with Nik--just two weeks ago I contacted them for about the third time--is that they will bend over backwards to make your software run. This last time they gave me a new passcode so I could once again download the entire suite.

Good luck.

The guy, Macquesta, who jumped on Nikon cracks me up!! Just because the software begins with the same three letters, he leaps into the conversation. My mother used to tell me that a fool didn't need facts to argue; yep, Mom, you're right again. Since about half the software in Macquesta's list isn't Nikon software, it seems to me the problem might be Microsoft's to resolve. Oh, wait a minute, maybe it's because of Nike or Nik Wallenda... (I don't think sooooo...)

BTW, I've been shooting Nikon equipment since 1968, and I love my Canon G-12. This Nikon/Canon debate really is an exercise in silliness.

Try the compatibility mode in WIN 8.1 Pro, it may work.
