SX 50 Canon Vs Panasonic FZ 70 Lumix.
FZ 70 was supposed to be available Sept. 1st. I am wondering if by now, some one has made a comparison test between these two cameras. I will purchase one on these however, I need more info on the Lumix. A comparison test would be helpful. I just learned yesterday that Lensmate company has redesigned their Filter adapter for the the SX50 so that you can use your 58mm filters. No need to step up to a 67 filter ---or so they say. I have several 72mm filters. Can you go from 58mm to 72. Just wondering.

Yes you can, and if you don't find a step-up-ring for a certain size, you can stack them.

I have held it and shot with it, very comfortable to my hand and impressed with IQ. For feature/tech comparison see this link:

From the reviews I don't see anything that would make it better than the SX50 and the FZ70's LCD appears to be FIXED. It won't tilt, swivel, etc. That alone would keep me from buying or even holding one!!
Thanks for the info. Appreciate the help.

Warhawk-- Yes, I agree. The thing that intrigues me about the Lumix is the F 2.8 and the 16 mp. I don't know yet if it will receive a filter. What say you.

Don't know about the filter, after seeing the LCD mount, I was not interested in looking at any more.
The SX60 is supposed to be coming out this fall and rumors have it moving up in MP count, so will have to wait and see!

F 2.8 is overated! My old Tessar lenses went to F 3.5 and they were fantastic. The more elements in a lens the more glass for the light to go through and corrections that have to be designed. Yes I know todays computer aided designs are superb but its just an opinion. By the way, I love the SX50.

Don't know what the price difference is, both has some nice features that would be nice to be combined into one camera. The image stabilization on the SX50 will be hard to beat. The Lumix picks up 10x more of optical zoom which is good along with a little more resolution. I also like the articulating view finder on the SX50, especially handy when doing movie shots and macros.
Add the Fuji HS50 to the comparison. Amazon has a great price on this camera. I love mine!!

I agree with Warhawk on the articulated LCD Screen. That would be important to me. The Panasonic FZ200 has that feature and I would look at that instead of the FZ 70 unless I had some dire need for a 60x zoom. The 200 has a 24x zoom which is plenty for most use, and it has F2.8 through the entire zoom range, which (to me) is more important than a bigger zoom. Also, someone pointed out that the FZ 70 has wider wide angle not longer telephoto than the sx 50. Both are 1200 mm lenses and the same size sensor. I've owned 2 Panasonics and 1 Canon, and would not hesitate to buy either brand, depending only on features I wanted. Articulating LCD is something I want, and more so as I get older.
I just received a FZ70 yesterday and really haven't had a chance to test it out thoroughly. I bought it to take along on a cruise where it's not realistic to be carrying around a couple DSLR bodies and lenses and still expect to enjoy youself; I was attracted to the 20-1200mm equivalent zoom range. Just looking at the camera it feels plasticy, the viewfinder is quite small and grainy-looking and the eyeglass correction does not appear to hold its setting very well. It does not have an articulated LCD but I don't want one of those anyway since they are easy to break off while in use. I note that the FZ70 shown on the Panasonic.com website has a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens (
http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/DMC-FZ70K), mine does not have the Leica version, but a "Lumix DC-Vario" marking...I assume it was made under Leitz licensing, but am not sure of that. Seems like false advertising to me since you think you are getting a real Leica lens, but receive something else, instead.

Tex, apparently, the FZ70 DOES accept a filter because the camera manual lists a model number for 2 different filters that can be purchased, an ND filter and a Circular filter. Page 28 of the manual is where I found it. Here is the link so you can see it for yourself.

the FZ70 takes 55mm filters, I have a skylight filter on mine...the lens cap snaps into it.
