NIK bundle and Corel After Shot Pro/Paint Shop Pro

Does the NIK bundle work with the Corel After Shot Pro and/or Paint Shop Pro X5? I see that Color Efex 3.0 is bundled with the Ultimate version of X5, but it isn't clear if the rest of the NIK bundle will integrate with Corel's software.

You can find the list of compatible programs here.

I don't see Corel software listed on the link, which I had alreaady discovered on my own. What made me think NIK software might work with PSP X5 is that Color Efex Pro 3.0 is included in the Ultimate version. I've also seen a forum post or two where some people had success using X4 and at least some of the NIK filters.

But, I had an online chat with a Corel tech rep last night, who told me the NIK plugins would be recognized by PSP X5. I didn't get into details beyond that. So, on paper at least, it appears the two will work together.

I'm looking into this as I'm weighing the decision to sign up for Adobe's Cloud subscription, versus seeking some alternative. I started a running battle of words the other day when I posed the question "What do you think of Adobe's Creative Cloud" to this forum.

I'm conflicted about the choice. I'm not a professional photographer, and make no money from my ever more costly hobby. So, cost is an important factor for me. But I do want access to high quality PP software, which includes products like NIK and Topaz. Going with Adobe will ensure that access, but at an ongoing cost I'm having trouble justifying to myself.

Corel's software is pretty good, reasonably priced, if not as capable as offerings from Adobe. I'm leaning toward Corel for now, which is not so costly that I will regret it if I choose later to bite the bullet and sign up with Adobe.

I also use Corel as well as Elements 11.
I am sure that Corel is more than aware of the move by Adobe to the cloud. I am also pretty confident that Corel will be quick to take advantage by further enhancing their software and features to make them even more competitive.
I for one do not at this time trust the Cloud method or the long term cost involved.

I'm getting conflicting information. Corel tech rep told me NIK would work with PSP X5, but I just got this response from Google to the same question:

Dear James,

Thank you for contacting Nik by Google.

To clarify, the Nik Collection by Google is not designed to operate with Corel PaintShop Pro in any versions as a host application. For more on compatibility, please visit our website here: System Requirements & Compatibility

If you have any further questions, please reply to this email or visit support.google.com/nikcollection to call our Customer Service Department Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm PST.

Best Regards,
Mace

I am aware of this, but I would also like to use the rest of the NIK collection, which now includes Coloe Efex Pro 4.0. It seems that we may be forced to use Adobe products if we also wish to use the full NIK collection.

So, vehicle leasing is also as 'bad' as Adobe moving to a subscription service?

And you are NOT Adobe's market for CC. People who use their software to make money, are.

Honestly, unless you're trying to some some fairly fancy stuff, LR4 with one of the plug-in suites [like OnOne] does a pretty good job. Or PSE.

Want to do stuff like Woody Walters? Not so much, but he gets big bucks for his creations.

If you want the tools, you have to pay for them [or make your own].

Adobe's move is a hotly debated topic, here on this forum and elsewhere. I don't really think it is so bad, since PSE and LR will apparently remain available outside the CC, pretty much as it is today. And those are the programs a typical hobbyist will be using anyway, since the full blown CS is fairly expensive already. The 'Cloud' makes sense for the professional and maybe the more extreme hobbyist. In terms of what you get, it is a huge amount of stuff, well beyond just PhotoShop.

Try the Color Efex 3.0 that comes with it first. I never got it to work with my PSPX5. I put the path in the PSPX5 plug-in directory and it wouldn't open when I called on the plug-in from the effects menu. NIK also doesn't mention Corel PaintShop Pro on their site as a compatible software that their products work with, as far as I could see. It used to be that if it worked with Photoshop it would work with PaintShop but that's not always true anymore.

I have some neat Topaz plug-ins in my PSPX5 and they work perfectly. You might want to look at those.

Subject: Update about 'Adobe Systems Incorporated: Eliminate the mandatory "creative cloud" subscription model.' on Change.org

Dear Supporters,
Thank you all for signing this petition! In just 4 and a half days we already have received more than 5,500 signatures from professionals, designers, freelancers, hobbyists and photographers from across the world.
Firstly, I wanted to inform you all, that as of late yesterday and early today there have been news articles written about this petition, including an article by CNNMoney and ComputerWorld. This is a small victory for us! As the media picks up on the fact that there are people out there who aren't in favor of Adobe's new changes, this petition will only continue to gain traction.
Secondly, I wanted to let you all know another important detail: As I have been reading around the web, I noticed a considerable amount of misinformation from both sides about the CC subscription model; those confused about the specifics of CC as well as deceitful propaganda coming from everywhere. Adobe has cleared up a few "myths" and misconceptions about CC, but nothing they have said has addressed the underlying issues. I wanted to let you know this so you all can be vigilant and support this petition for the right reasons.
Thirdly, know that this petition is not my petition- it is ours. There are many troubling problems that arise from Adobe's change from licensed, owned software to a monthly rented subscription service. This petition is a conglomerate of many differing, yet valid reasons, for changing Adobe's minds. Do not be afraid to leave Adobe your honest feedback and rationale in the comments section of the petition page, and let your voices be heard!
Finally, with all of that said, continue to share this around with everyone you know! Also think about sharing this petition on Twitter. You can link to this petition using this: http://mnch.us/adobe2. Also consider signing a petition by Corey Edwards, which asks adobe to reconsider their Creative Cloud subscription plan terms and pricing. You can find his petition on chang.org here: http://mnch.us/adobe.
This isn't over yet.
Thank you everyone for all of your help and support,
Derek Schoffstall

I am aware of the target market for Adobe, and recognize CC is a bargain in consideration of all that is included. I'm debating the pros and cons for myself.

5,500 from 'across the world'? Drop in the bucket. Not worth Adobe's time to even consider.
