Does anyone have a suggestion for a good memory card for a D7100. What do the different classes mean
Classes are usually important to shooting video for faster read/write speeds. That said I've had great luck with Transcend SD cards. I still would get a class 10 card. You never know. You can get them reasonably priced from Amazon and they have a lifetime warranty.
The D7100 REQUIRES Class 10 cards in the SDHC format, or you can elect to go to the SDXC format if you want to. I shoot in RAW + JPG Basic with mine. For this I use a 16GB Class 10 SDHC in slot 1 to record the RAW images, and an 8GB Class 10 SDHC in Slot 2 to record the JPG images. It has worked extremely well for me. I use both Sandisk and Lexar cards interchangeably and have never had any issues with either brand.
I use Class 10 Sandisk 32GB in both slots, and shoot RAW in slot 1 and JPG in slot 2. Never had a problem (knock on wood). I use the same card in both slots...just in case ...so,if something goes bad with the card in slot 1, (While on a shoot) I can just replace it with the card in slot 2 and still have the same capability.
Ditto - I follow the same principle as MT has stated below. Never had a card failure and rest assured, if I do, the second card would be my backup. I might add after clearing out both cards, I always reformat in Camera. Cheers Mate.

I too use the Sandisk cards with my Nikon D7100. Use a 16Gb in slot 1 and a 32gb in slot 2. Both are SDHC, Class 10, so far no problems. As far as speed, you have to look at the individual cards, some write at 30mb per second and some at 45mb per second. The higher speeds do not slow down the write speed. Also, the higher the speed the higher the COST!!! Have not used them but understand the Lexar cards are good ones also.

Hey MT Shooter, on the extreme pro cards does the read speed make that much different 30ms vs 95ms for the D7100

The read speed actually means nothing to your camera. That only states the speed at which the data can be read when downloading through a card reader into the computer.
What the camera is concerned with is the WRITE speed of the card. The cards write speed needs to be at least as fast as the cameras buffer wants to write the image data. A card with a slower write speed than the camera needs will create a bottleneck and cause the camera to lock-up during shooting while it waits to write data from the buffer to the card.
What write speed do you use on your D7100

The D7100 uses the same buffer as the D7000. This has been listed as having a maximum 28Mb/s write speed.
Nikon recommends Class 6 or higher for video in both bodies, Class 4 or higher for stills.
Thanks so much for the info. I just got a new D7100 yesterday.
I'm setting up the D7100. Can't seem to get the depth of field button to work, any suggestions. I'm sure it has to be something I'm missing. Can't wait to try the camera out. Ha,ha.
Never mind MT. I figured the preview button out.
