Oop, my lens damaged so bought a used one on E-bay, Realized when got it is EFS and I have a Canon 5D which takes EF. Is there such a thing as an adaptor for this, or do I need to sell it, or look for a cheap camera on e_bay that it will fit? Just begun reading more on this site - great info. thanks.

Any adapter will add length to the lens and will need an additional lens element to re-establish infinity focus. Sell it!

off to visit grandchildren and won't have access to internet until I return Friday. Thanks for comments already made. I am such a novice and can't afford to buy new so appreciate having this opportunity to ask of the more experienced.

Hi ascutney: Here is the best advice I can give you, it is a web site written for beginner photographers and is my go to website if I have a question concerning almost anything on a Canon lens. The site is well written and very easy to follow. http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html The answer to your question is about an eighth of the way down the page. In a word on a 5D Canon it would have to be "NO"!! It can be done but not with out issues on a body as new as a 5D.

Not whacky, which is rude and not helpful. An EF-S lens is designed specifically for the Canon crop sensor cameras. The buyer must be aware of what they are purchasing and do their homework and research. The EF-S lenses are normally less expensive, and designed for those with crop sensor cameras on a stricter budget. If you are so inclined, you can buy and use the Canon EF lens series for the crop sensor cameras as well.

Would you buy a Ford part for your Chevy? Caveat Emptor!! Gary
