Every time I think I have taken a georgous picture. I look at this website and feel like such an amature Iam embarrassed to post any of my pictures however being a newbie Iam dying to hear what somebody thinks of the pics I take. If I finally get up the courage to post a picture please take it easy on me.
I'm trying my best to learn but frankly just do not know what makes a great picture from a mediocre one. Thank you all for all for your post I learn a little more from each one.
Building up the courage to post a picture.........

:| C'mon Kenm54... just do it ...
I was taught how to remove the lens cap in just over a week by the folks in here ... in two weeks I realized that the shiny part of the camera goes to the front ... three weeks and I knew that the silver button on top makes a cute clicking noise! ... and this week I'm anticipating a photo to come out of the bottom of the camera... but no sign of it yet ? ...
Next week I'm getting to see into a Theresa's "knicker drawer" ... apparently! ...
Do it.... post a picture ..... the encouragement's and advise given in here far outweighs the pain of the constructive criticisms given .. ...
Come on Ken, Just go for it. Sure, you'll get some criticism, but so what. We've all taken a few beatings. Grow your skin a little thicker and dive in. If they beat you up remind them that everyone doesn't start as a pro, that some are here to teach, some to show off and some to learn. Just put yourself in the "learning" group and when they snap at you, tell them they stink, laugh about it and go shoot some more! I promise you, they cannot hurt you!!!!
... correct... and if all else fails you still have the delete button .. I use mine lots!

The point is not show off a perfect picture. The point is to take a nice picture, something you like, and show us.

kenn54, don't worry about what someone else thinks, sometimes (most by far) its good and sometimes may be not. Everyone here has the same goals and that's to be better photographers. Please Post

what I have found is that new photographers tend to UNDERESTIMATE their talent. I have been a photographer for 44 years, yet am constantly amazed at the quality and composition of photos posted by brand new photographers.
As for composition, that is totally subjective. give 10 photographers the same subject matter to shoot, and you will get 30 different photos. My suggestion is to first learn what makes a technically correct photo (depth of field, using large or small apertures, use of shutter speed to stop action or show motion. Then work on composition. The answer is Bryan Petersen. Get his books "understanding exposure" also learning to see creatively. In plain English and with fantastic photos,he will get you comfortable with the fundamentals. My entire approach to photography changed after reading learning to see creatively.
