I placed a rear lens cap on my new Nikon 70-200mm f4G lens and cannot get it off. It is on very tight, like it just melted into place. Not sure if it was the one that came with the lens or one I already had. It has Nikon F mount printed on cap. Any help deeply appreciated!

You ARE turning it clockwise I assume with the lens facing away, YES both body and lens caps CAN become stiff don't worry

Channel locks. Very strange. I would think the rear cap would come off counter clockwise looking from the back. I know they do on Canon but I thought also on Nikons.

I should have known Nikon would be backasswards. Still can't figure out a stuck rear cap unless it was the wrong cap and was forced on. If the cap said Nikon F it should be the proper fit.

Correct, looking from the back of the lens, turn the lens cap right.

Did this. Found the harder I pushed to get it off the tighter it was. Squeezing the cap sometimes pushes it out of round and will not come off. Try a lighter touch when turning it.

Hey Doc ..... you can pick up a small strap wrench for under $5.00 .....

..... BTW Nikon caps turn clockwise for removal (opposite of what you'd think)

..... rubber grips rather well and circles the object instead of squeezing which you're doing with your fingers .....

..... works well for jar tops and anything that unscrews, including stubborn filters .....

Adorama sells a set of filter wrenches. They work great and won't chew up your caps or filters like a pair of channel locks will.

Hey Doc ..... strap wrenches are handy because they're inexpensive and versatile .....

..... kitchen use for opening jars, actually came in handy removing a stubborn oil filter .....

..... and if ya wanna kill someone you can ring their neck ..... and although the UK has no guns this may become their weapon of choice since strap wrenches are so cheap ..... ha,ha,ha,ha

Thanks a lot Wabbit. Now we have to ban strap wrenches. And can openers since the average liberals brain can fit in a 12 oz. can whereas the average human brain weighs 3 lbs.

Too late. The damage is done. I'm stocking up tonight on can openers and strap wrenches though. Hope there's not a crowd at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It could get ugly. I guess I better take my pistol just in case.
