Has anyone heard of this speedlite:Yongnuo YN560II II Flash Speedlite w LCD Screen For Canon 580EX II 430EX II? It comes from Cameradojo.com ... I found it on eBay and they claim it works on my camera the EOS 3Ti. I am just getting interested in working with portraits but I need good flash and they claim it will do everything the Canon 580EX II or 430EX II speedlites will do.

If I'm not mistaken, the Yongnuo YN560ii does not have the same capabilities as the Canon 430 and 580. The YN560ii is a manual-controlled flash. The YN565, however, is more like the 430/580 in that it does have E-TTL capability at twice the price as the YN560ii (but, still a lot cheaper than the Canon flashes).

I have several older YN560s and they work fine, but I never use them. Instead, I opted to get several used Canon 550s. I don't use multiple speedlights on a regular basis.

There are certain thing that I buy that are generic, but others I will not take a chance with. I do not use a flash that often because ambient light usually works for me. recently purchased a 580ex and even with only general knowledge of this unit it does everything I bought it for. would not attempt anything like this not made by Canon.

My Canon speedlite 430exii reads, just ahead of the hot shoe contact,

CANON INC.
made in china

Probably in the same factory as the Yongnuo, of which at least one model is fully functional when used with the 7D, for example, and at a fraction of the cost. Either way, you are supporting the Chinese economy.

I just picked up the youngnuo 565ex and love it. Works great on or off camera. I never owned a camera or flash like this and had it working off the camera in 5 minutes. The only downside is the beep. Very loud and when on camera right in your ear. That was an easy fix though. Took the bottom off and put some silicon caulk over part of the little hole.

Have you worked with it with strobes umbrellas and other units get them to flash? All this is new to me that is why I am asking. I am trying to get into the portrait market and well I am just trying to find the right equipment for my Canon t3i So I am still learning.

The YN 560EXII is a very basic flash with at most TTL capability which means it should operate as an optical slave and could possibly be triggered by Auntie Em's P+S.
The Yn 565 or 568 are E-TTL and coded so their optical wireless will not be affected by Auntie Em. None of the Youngnou units have a Master capability so they will need a Canon 550EX, 580EX, 580EXII, ST-E2 or Canon 7D to optically trigger. Many Pros still prefer the 550/580EX since the Master/Slave/Off is controlled by a actual switch and not by complicated switching of C.Fn on the back screen with the EXII. The Youngnou Flashes are well made. I just received two YN-565EX's to compliment my three 580EXII's as background flashes all co-ordinated by my 7D and six YN622's. If you decide to buy Youngnou go to the Youngnow store or their face-book page. Look for an email tab for purchasing multiple units and send an inquiry. They will send you a coupon code good for 10-20% off. They're free shipping is extremely fast.

You can buy a wireless flash trigger for the Yongnuo's that works very well and control many units. YN-603 or 622.

The YN-622 is the way to go. It transmits all the current E-TTL parameters including ratios which seems to be a stumbling block for most of the similarly or higher priced units like Pixel King. When teamed up with a Canon *D camera you can set the manual power of groups A/B/C directly from the flash menu of the camera as if the were attached to the hot shoe. Zoom, second curtain sync, Hi speed sync, FEC, Multi and Manual mode are all supported. These are radio transceivers so you need one on the camera hot-shoe and one per flash. The designated transmitter has shoot through capabilities to it's hot-shoe so it can be attached via cable and serve as a flash position. Personally I can't get enough of them.

Do you have your lights pointed right at the subject? Have you played with the light levels and trigger times? I've been messing around with my 565ex.
