Well, best thing is to just do it, and then see what is said.
AORST thing that could happen, is that EVERYBODY HATES it. And I don't think that would ever be the case, so now that the worst possible is out of the way, go ahead and put up something and ask for constructive help! I'd be happy to look at your work and say something helpful, IF it needs any help. It might just be fine the way it is. Give it a try!

Wow - this sure sounds familiar - lots of folks in the many online groups I have been involved with have said the same thing. I too uttered those words when I first joined a camera group.
Here is the solution to your problem. Photography is like learning to swim -r ride a bicycle - you have to start some where and with practice you get better at it.
Now post 3 of what you feel are good shots and ask for C&C-the group will help you refine you shots. Take in the good advice you will get here - we all started the same as you.

Lots of us in here have tried the nice way to get you to post .... but,... "that's it"... you don't post soon you could regret it .... things are about to get nasty... real nasty !!! I'm publicly stating here and now , that if a photo has not been posted in the next couple of hours then I will take the drastic action of posting one of my "overcooked images with wonky horizons"!... :shock: you may not have seen one of these upsetting images .... but others have ! Some folks in here have pleaded with me not to post again ....
They know just how bad they are .... :hunf: some have needed psychological treatment after seeing them .... only thing they are good for is placing them out on my lawn.... they are quite successful at stopping next doors cat from crapping on my garden ! :-(

Greeting from the left coast of the USA.
I too was a little embarrassed to begin with but found the folks here so supportive and friendly. I review the daily message with interest and learn all the time. It a big family where everyone for the most part get along well and if not Big Sister or Brother steps in a resolves a dispute.
That being said......Get some photos posted!!!

I, too, am an amateur...I've been studying all kinds of photographs to get an idea of what makes an excellent one...I've come to the conclusion a lot of it is subjective but, mainly, is it what you like to see? I've seen highly award-winning photographs that made me to go "huh?"...I've seen amateur ones that I thought were excellent...I've also seen ones that I thought deserved the awards they got...I've done some myself that I thought were pretty darned good...were they? Don't know but I'm starting to enter contests to see and have entered the weekly contests on this website a few times...I do agree with the person who said POST IT, POST IT, POST IT...I'm not out to sell mine (perhaps sometime) but I like what I do..

Ken...I have 490 slides of my honeymoon...each with a 10 minute story...relatives and friends have committed suicide by slide 43....

We all start out with hesitation. Everyone starts at different times in their life. A photo you like and pleases you, is a good photo. Post one and I'm sure no one is going to go on about in language that is over your head. We start slow with small suggestions and as you take one step forward, we will encourage you on to the next step.
My photography is very poor by most standards, but I take hundreds of them every month and work to make them the best my equipment will allow (which is not much since I don't have a very good camera to start with) but I'm happy with what I have and I'm happy to learn more.
