I got a new camera this December and now Nikon does the registration online. On December 28th, I registered my new camera and asked if I could register all my Nikon products online even though they were already registered by mail, they told me that I could do it.
I got a nasty surprise when I tried to register the Nikon D7000 that I got from Sunset Electronics as I couldn't do it because the camera came from the "grey Market". I called Sunset Electronics and left a message and sent an email. Also, called Amazon and spoke with Nick, explained everything, but he said that Amazon couldn't do anything as the camera was sold from a third party, as I told him: If I find Sunset Electronics on the internet, I wouldn't have bought from them. I bought from them because Amazon sponsors them. Neither Amazon nor Sunset Electronics advice the customer that we could be buying a grey market product. If I had paid grey market price or had the opportunity of make the decision about buying or not from grey market, I wouldn't been complaining, but that wasn't the case. I paid a market price and never was aware that I own a grey market product until now because of the online registration.
I spoke with Mr. Henry at Sunset Electronics and we agreed on send him the serial number of the camera as he says that he can register it, anyway, he solution that he gave me to make me happy is an extra battery... is he kidding me? I want a camera that I can sell for a fair price and I can send to Nikon if needs to be repair. That is what I paid for.
I'm stuck with a camera that I overpaid, that if I want to sell, will get peanuts and in case needs repair, needs to be send to a whatever dealer as Nikon does not service it even if I pay for it.
Of course, never heard back from them and they don't answer the phone calls or emails. THEY ARE CROOKS as stated by other reviewer on Yelp :(
Needless to say how frustrated and disappointed I feel.

Old quote "buyer beware" never got for the cheapest and ALWAYS research an unknown supplier BEFORE parting with cash, no excuses these days as anyone can google

This is "bait & switch" tactics. Use this term everytime you discuss situation with Amazon or Sunset. You paid for a US Warranted camera, but received a gray market camera.

I suggest that you press Amazon to discontinue their association with Sunset, based on "bait & switch" tactics.

Well... Wasn't CHEAP, that is one of my complaints to them, I wouldn't complain if I paid grey market price and I bought it trough Amazon... anyway, to help others with their research, I posted this.

I'm at a loss. At one point during Christmas Nikon had the D7000 w 18-105 lens on sale from $1,199 down to $999.95, for about three days. Current price through any authorized Nikon dealer is $899.95 Body only, $ 1,499.95 with 18-200 Lens and $ 1,199.95 for 18-105MM lens kit. What did you get for $ 1,500??

Yayi, I'm not trying to make you feel better, because you are right to be hopping mad! But if they did not say it was USA, and you did not ask, I would not say it was bait-n-switch. It's the same camera, with the Warrenty in some other country. I may be wrong since I shoot Canons. If the camera is out of warrenty(one year) Nikon should treat it as any other repair. They will repair and charge like any other out of Warrenty item. Once out of warrenty, what difference will it make where it came from. If you moved here from UK with a boat load of camera gear, would you expect it's values to suddenly drop? Would you unload it all before you leave and re-buy USA gear? It's the same gear whether fron Ireland, China or Argentina. Either way you already have it plus an expensive(grey market) extra battery.
I wouldn't buy grey market unless it was way cheaper, and then only if I knew going into it. But if I found myself there, as you, I'd be miffed, then just move on.
