Hey Steve. Like you, I don't care for HDR that is blown out to the point it looks more like a painting than a photo. You have given me some interest in the subject though. Would you mind posting a couple of your results to this thread?

Any HDR's I might have, would be somewhere on a DVD. I haven't taken any lately, arthritis and a ruptured disk limit my mobility these days, but I'll look around for some. I am not sure! I have even saved any.

I save very little, sometimes all I do is post something to a forum somewhere, and the original is discarded. I am not your usual pitcher tooker. :)

That's O.K. Steve. Don't go through too much to find some. I would just like to see some results. I have always been lead to believe that HDR was a long process in very specialized programs. But, if it's as simple as that I can try to take my own this weekend and see how it works out.
I'm sorry for your pain with arthritis. Wish you well.

Most of what I have saved have been from trips, like to the outer banks, and DC. I know there are no HDR's in those. A couple of Panoramas, but no HDR's.

I stand corrected Elements does have a simple alignment, but nothing like PhotoMatrix. So using a tripod, and keeping them in alignment is paramount. Especially for the five recommended shots.
I did see a DSLR add somewhere, for one that will bracket up to five exposures or more. As the old man said, "what will they come up with next".

No taking HDR's, and combining them is not difficult. If you go on to use a program like PhotoMatrix, the tone mapping step requires experience, and frugality. I think it looks rather like the Dick Tracy movie, if you over do it. So using Elements is in my opinion; which doesn't count for a lot :) is the best.

One more thing to consider it to make sure that when taking pics for HDR is to use apature priority so that the depth of field is the same in each of the bracketed images

Good point, I didn't think of that! because my norm is either AV or Manual. So never changing, I don't sometimes consider others do.

can't see much of a diference. Maybe the shot was one that didn't need HDR! HDR works best when the exposure from highlights to shsdows is more than the camera can record. If the exposure latitude is within 5 stops you really don't need HDR
