IMHO, it's cheap insurance.

Kinda my opinion also, I take extremely good care of my cameras but just like the added insurance.

When I'm carrying the camera on a strap, whether it's around my neck or over a shoulder, it's the LCD that contacts things.

About the glass screen protectors. Do they work with touch screens? Also if you have a flip screen ,are they not too thick so as you are not able to flip closed? I believe in my case, the Zagg will be the best solution.

there was a suggestion for a popup screen. How does a popup screen protect the screen from scratches ,ie;touch screen? I can see how it would be useful in sunny conditions though,so you are able to see the screen more easily.

Like having a cover on your car, the pop-up protects the screen when it's folded down, not when you're actually using the camera. Of course, it's not necessary to look at the LCD while you're shooting, unless you're doing video, so you can leave the cover folded down most of the time.

The Vello on my NEX-5N allows me to use the touch screen as if it wasn't there (the Vellos are very thin multi-layered sheets). However, I'm not that big a fan of touch screens with the fingerprints and such.
