I had a computer crash years ago and lost some pictures and now I'm paranoid. Does anyone have any suggestions for storage? I Take a lot of pictures and they are large files. I will appreciate any suggestions you have.
Thanks~

There are a fews to back your photos
I've been using DVDs which are ok, but you are best to use an external hard drive
I have two 1.5 tb HDs USB attached to MacBook pro one photos and videos and the other for other stuff.
Also two portable HDs one for videos and the other for photos these are plugged into a media player which is attached to the TV
You see plenty of backup, good insurance. Hope this helps and never under estimate the importance of backup. Regards

Another option that I am exploring right now is using Dropbox to archive your images. They sell extra storage up to 200gb I believe, that way you have the files available but with an offsite backup so even if your house burns down you have a good backup

The exteral hard drive is great, I use that and I also put them on DVD's to. Now with the new things out I use the Blueray Disc to back them up and only use a good quality disc to do it. They will last for a long time and no electrical problems to go wrong with anything.

I have two 3 terra bite drives now, configured with RAID0. The second drive mirrors the first drive.I keep all of my images on them, not in the computer.

I used to burn DVDs but for some reason neither of my machines will talk to my DVD writer

Carbonite http://www.carbonite.com/en/

Off site, automatic, worry free, not that expensive.

I don't work for them, but use them. And, I speak with over 45 years in computer repair / service management.

Yes CDs and DVDs are questionable (even though I do use them) because they are constantly changing the back up software. As for Carbonite and other Cloud systems keep in mind that your server may have some limitations on what you can send off. I got into deep trouble with a Microsoft cloud (Lifeboat) because I don't have unlimited access. Verizon is still trying to collect.

Multiple backup drives are advisable since any one can fail. Send your best photos to an offsite location so you don't loose them in case of fire, flood, tornado, etc.

A good external harddrive is key for what you need. Better yet, get 2 and keep one somewhere else (a relative's or at the bank in the lock box) so you have a definate backup in case something happens.

Put them on the cloud. you have access anywhere and they are always safe off site.
