I have researched this to death! I am very short and skinny and am looking for a camera strap that can 1) adjust short enough to where the camera's long lens (100-400 Leica on my Lumix GX8) isn't down to my mid-thigh and 2) doesn't swing out and hit me while on long hikes. (I tried the front back-pack style and the camera swings out annoyingly with every step.) and 3) Is super-comfortable on my little bony neck and shoulder. I'm also not thrilled with the idea of using my tripod mount for the attachment, though I've never tried it. Don't have a budget. Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

I have seen some sort of harness that carries the camera close to your chest. It appears to immobilize the camera until you are ready to use it.

Been the same route and still looking for good suggestions on this too. I've become used to carrying my camera in my backpack or hand with no strap attached at all. I've found most straps give me a false sense of security because the camera swinging can be broken just about as much as dropping it. Holding it does get tiring but I am conscious of where it is at all times. Thank you for letting me participate in this quest.

I love my Joby Pro Camera Sling strap! https://joby.com/camera-straps/pro-sling-strap
It comes in two sizes. Watch the video. When not in use I shorten the strap to get the camera out of the way. Then quickly lower the camera for shooting. Of course I now switched to Peak Design slide strap which has other features I like and not quite so quick to lower the camera for shooting.

Second the Joby!

Also got this plate so I could use an Arca mount without having to detach the strap.

Optech Mirrorless Sling strap meets ALL your specifications listed, extremely comfortable, and only costs $20.

I used Nikon AN-4Y since the early 80's. I still buy and use the same strap for newer cameras.

The best answer.

What works for others doesn't mean it will work for you. Putting your hands on a product is usually the best for items comfort and even usability.

I've tried many different camera straps. Of the ones I've tried the strap that comes closest to meeting my needs is made by Peak Design. The system they use to shorten or lengthen the strap is the easiest and quickest I have come across (it can be done with one hand with the camera still around your neck). Additionally, they have developed a system for attaching the camera body to the strap that allows you to move the strap from one camera to another with ease. If you use two cameras like I do this is a very nice feature.

Not sure I understand exactly what you are looking for so this may not help. But I second saxman71's endorsement of Peak Design straps. I recently bought their "slidelite" strap designed for use with mirrorless and small DSLR cameras. So far I like it a lot. It can be worn as a neck or sling strap, is very comfortable, is attached to the camera strap attachment fittings, and as saxman71 said, adjusts very easily and can be easily detached to use on another camera.

Good luck; hope you find the right strap for you.
