Mama Mallard that is.
This my first trip in a while to the Riverwalk Parkway in Riverside, CA.
I got some nice images and will post more later.
Afternoon warm light and shade in places. I was trying out a new pistol grip ball head on a monopod. I stopped on the way home from the camera store.

Nice job. I like them both
Canon 80D, and Canon 100-400 L zoom lens. Correct? I am impressed with your two photos. I have been considering an 80D to replace my XSI, but have been thinking of investing in L glass first.
the color of the second is amazing. congratulations.

Yes the 100-400L mk 2. I had a mk 1 before but traded it. Now I miss it since I have two bodies but only one really long lens.
I didn't have the 1.4x III on for these but I use it with this lens a lot. They do extremely well together.

Thanks, I played with the color sliders in LR to bring up the blue of the open sky above.

What would you suggest I purchase first, the 80D body, or the "L" glass?

It depends on what body you are using now. But generally getting better lenses will make a bigger difference and they just go from one camera body to the next. If you buy Canon EF mount lenses (full frame) they will also fit any APS-C (crop sensor) body you may use. But the EF-S lenses have to go on APS-C bodies.
