I do not really know how to reach a moderator in this forum and I apologize for that but I thought it was necessary for me to clarify publicly a post by gregoryd45 in view of his angry and nasty response to my trying to correct his spelling. I hope that trying to correct someone's spelling is not a capital sin.

Today, Gregory gave me what I consider a nasty response. I DO NOT INTRUDE often in his posts as he stated, on the contrary when I have done it has been to praise his beautiful wildlife images. I do not believe I have posted comments very often in his posts though. Today he shut up all type of communications that I could have had with him not giving me the opportunity to answer to his angry reply. I believe everybody has the right to an opinion, assuming it is a respectful one and in my years in the forum I never had anyone accuse me of being nasty or trying to undermine the work of others.

About 3 years ago I asked very kindly to Gregory to allow me to participate in one of his wildlife outings. I do not know if he is a guide, he never mentioned that to me but I know he lives in an area rich in wildlife as I have seen in several occasions through his beautiful images. He NEVER emailed me or sent me a personal message to invite me to photograph as he promised. I never gave him any nasty comments on that even when I knew he failed to follow his words and I knew he has been photographing with others but cannot tell if those photographers were part of the forum.

I do regret this incident because it is not my intention to offend anyone and if he feels offended then I apologize and this will not happen again.

This is a great photography forum. I have been privileged by been accepted and allowed my humble participation along with other members of the forum. People here have been very friendly and respectful which makes this the great forum it is.

Once again I apologize for this nasty and improper incident.

Why are/were you concerned about his spelling? I am a retired teacher and only say anything when a spelling is a a wrong word/name and then I frame it as a query for information. On misspelled words I simply spell them correctly in my comment/reply.

Let it go. Just go on with life and act like nothing happened. Things may improve. Look at his pictures and don't comment or anything.

There seems to be as many people quick to correct others as there are those who dislike being corrected. About par for an online forum....

If UHH was a private 'club' where you actually met the people behind the keyboard. chances are you would speak to a very few 'like minded' people and be on 'polite' nodding terms with everyone else.

The scattergun approach to personal opinions is bound to upset more people.
Politeness on the other hand has fewer drawbacks

Thank you gentlemen for taking the time to answer my rant. It never occurred to me that correcting the word Everglades would be reason enough to get such a nasty response. I believe a personal mail, like I have received in the past when I made spelling mistakes, would have been in order. I was grateful that my mistake was corrected but I can see that others consider that an offense. I felt offended and could not understand this gentleman's behaviour. By shutting off all communications with him I was not given the chance to at least offer and apology BUT I learned the lesson.
By the way, from now on I have no interest in his posts and will leave this in the past.
Thank you all once again.

Don't sweat it. I have been on "ignore" from one member in the UK because I pointed out to him that gun rights/control was a hot button subject in the US and he shouldn't preach at us that we should be like them.
Except for that one post I usually gave him for his humor he posted and have since seen things where I would have been on his side and reinforced his posts. I sent peace offering via "Extend an Olive Branch" but no answer. He still posts some good humor and a great series on Kipling.

From Greg's response, it seems that there is somewhat of a history that you have not revealed to us. Perhaps you should tell us the rest of the story.

Steve, what is the rest of the story that I have to tell you? Do I lie to others? That would be kind of pathetic at 82, don't you think so?
I presented my apologies to Gregory and kindly he accepted my apologies and we are back to where we were.
Please, do not try to insinuate I am hiding part of the story behind me. I do not, and let me emphasize that, I do not intrude in his posts or anybody else posts with the purpose of hurting someone reputation and when I have participated with my comments in any post my comments have been respectful.
I have learned the lesson and since correcting someone else mistake with the purpose of helping is such a capital sin that will not happen again.

Robert, you had the courtesy of doing exactly what I did but in my case Gregory kindly also extended an olive branch. Some people have their opinion and do not respect that of others.

Sounds like we could have avoided this public soap opera.
