I am looking for a photography program that is free, easy to work with and is supported. I do not know photoshop or lightroom and do not have time to study on a regular basic. Also, I am moving to include my Nikon D7200 with a new D850. I take a lot of micro, nature and air shows. I also have a need to build a web site to start selling prints. Need to work to save the print for sale with cc or something and/or a site that I can safely sell the prints thru.

Thanks,
SubVet

Even though I have Photoshop CC I often use the free Nikon NX-2 but you may need to use NX-I and NX-D for the D850.

I mostly use Photoshop CC, but, of the free ones, I play some with Nikon NX-I, which isn't bad. I also use PhotoScape, but I am not happy with their Raw converter results.

For ten bucks a month, you can't beat the LightRoom / Photoshop combination for my money (I spend more on takeout coffee), but if you want a standalone program, the Nikon NX-I is fairly easy to learn, but not capable of extensive corrections and changes.

If you want a freeware full editor, I've used GIMP with some success, but it has a very steep initial learning curve IMHO.

Good luck!

Andy

B&H still has a cd version of Photoshop Elements 18 only for under $100 bucks with no monthly fees and one time payment and you do have to register it as usual with most programs. I find the elements 15 I have quite useful professionally. I got the version with Adobe Premier a movie making program. I am about to upgrade to the Elements 18 that includes Premier and Photoshop. Only reason is that 18 says I can open closed eyes with it. Some shots may need it down the road for me. From what I have seen there are some windows programs that can edit a little but usually very little. View NX 2 for Nikon has some abilities to edit but not many. It used to come as a cd with a Nikon camera.

So am I understanding you correctly? You have excellent cameras and you want to sell your images but you have no time or interest in getting the most out of them in post with professional-level software? And instead, to support your goal of selling your photos you want to use free and easy post processing software which will have very limited functionality? Good luck with that.

Free is a good price for what you want. But, it strikes me that for a mere $10/month, you can obtain the Creative Cloud system that will do all of this stuff for you. Unfortunately, anything you get is gonna require the same amount of your time in learning.

I was thinking the same thing. He should probably look for a free camera, too.

The jump from the D7200, to the D850, is an almost quantum leap. You're also going from DX to FX. Unless you have FX lenses already, you're also going to be spending money to equip the D850. Before you spend nearly $4k for a body, check out the possibility of a lesser priced model like the D750, or if you want to stay with DX, look at the D500.

Before jumping into building a web site, be sure you're familiar with basic business practices. The biggest failure of small businesses in the first year, is under-capitalization. You need to understand in depth, the cost of doing business. While digital imaging is "free" as far as input goes. However, output in the form of prints, is going to be very expensive. Consider also costs, like mailing, shipping, printer replenishment, etc., web site maintenance fees. Those are just the basics.

I don't know how good your existing portfolio is, but you'll be competing with folks who are already established and successful in the marketplace.

As was mentioned, getting Photoshop Elements 2018, is relatively cheap, and after learning the package, is very powerful.

good luck with your business! -- from a previous post; I use Gimp (free, open source) - it gets regular updates, the RAWTherapee plugin to open-edit RAW files is straight forward, there are many tutorials (and in this regard, as Bill de wrote, google is your friend), and there are user groups / forums for just about all aspects of editing images with Gimp. Beware, like any software (and especially for free software!), there is a learning curve. It would be worth investment of your time to work through some tutorials.

H

PS - I will echo what penndennis wrote by suggesting you reach out to a nerd about the web end of things, and researching your selling photos online entrepreneurial venture before jumping in

The OP was very specific when he said, "I am looking for a photography program that is free, easy to work with and is supported. I do not know photoshop orl ightroom and do not have time to study on a regular basic." I also noted in some of his other posts he used to use Picasa but had a problem with it. I doubt GIMP would even come close to meeting his criteria due to its extensive learning curve. What he wants is free and easy, which also usually means light weight and a limited feature set. Probably not the best combination if he's serious about marketing his work.

The Creative Cloud is Lightroom CC and Photoshop CC, the two programs you already dismissed.
