Some People Might Laugh, But Not Me

I shot this "Testimony Truck" in late 2010 or early 2011 as you can see by the 5/21/2011 date on the side. Obviously things did not turn out as expected and without a doubt many otherwise good people had a laugh at those who were disappointed. I don't see it that way. I like living in a society where people are looking forward to the Second Coming of Jesus. If someone does a lot of study and comes up with a wrong date, so what? I'm a better person for having been reminded that I'd better live my life like a true disciple every day, every year. For all I know, the Second Coming is about thirty minutes from now when I have a stroke, or the next time I drive my car to the store and someone runs a red light. The parable of the Ten Virgins reminds me to keep oil in my lamp all the time, as no one knows exactly when the Bridegroom is coming.

Family Radio or Family Stations was a terrific international Christian, reformed family of radio and TV stations that did a great job of preaching the Gospel until their founder, Harold Camping lost his mind and started to preach everyday on the air that Christ was coming on several dates. I worked for the stations back in New York in the early 90s. When Christ did not come in 1994 as predicted and other dates, Camping recanted. He lost many good employees including me and much of his financial support. Camping passed away a few years ago and the ministry is not doing well. You are very correct. If we were to die today, that would be our second coming and we should live and be prepared. Thanks for the picture. Bob

Amen Brother. I believe we were told that we would not know the time, so we should always be ready.

I whole-heartily agree with your message we should be prepared for the "in a twinkling of an eye" moment, so please don't mistake me for being argumentative. Near the end of Matthew 24 (v.38) Jesus tells his disciples "no one knows the hour, not even the angels, nor the Son, but the Father only." Please know many have been led astray by false prophets who studied and came up with a wrong date. Some of these have died as a consequence of following the false prophets to their doom, while many others were convinced to sell all they had (all proceeds from the sales given to the false prophet's ministry) only to be left penniless afterwards. There are cults still in existence today as a result of these "wrong dates."

Again, not being argumentative--my only reason for the above commentary is to help you understand the importance guarding our hearts against false teaching. Somewhere in my office I still have a copy of "88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be In 1988."

I believe this to be a true story, but, if not, it still illustrates the point - a truck was transporting a large number of inflatable balloon people to a party, when the ropes holding the helium-inflated "people" broke. The balloon people began to float away. A woman, seeing the balloon people floating in the sky and believing the rapture was occurring, hurled herself out the sunroof of her car traveling freeway speeds and was killed. I guess one way or the other, she met Our Lord that day. But, take heed - I don't think God needs any help to get us up to meet the Son in the air on that day! Peace and the love of Jesus be with you all!

Jesus IS coming but false prophets do nothing but make Christians look foolish to pagans. I will laugh at that truck and I will mock it for what it is.
