House Finch Fledgling feeding and a guard?

I believe the one feeding is either a fledgling/immature male or a very young female - probably a fledgling, sitting like it was exhausted from flying and almost no fear - let me and my camera get 15 feet away. When it flew off the flight seemed a bit "shaky" also.
Meanwhile perched on a wire nearby/over head watching over it was this male. I think it is a parent watching over a fledgling as it learns to fly and find food.

Robert, do the colors change when they mature? They look different. Excellent
captures of both, by the way.

The males change, the females remain pretty much the same. And in the spring the males' colors, esp the red get more pronounced and flashier.

Jerry, another excellent set photos. It is a male on the wire so maybe you are correct.

This year the male house finches in my yard are a bright red I have seldom seen before so something I am feeding them or in the area is giving those colors a boost. The experts say that birds with red/pink etc get the color from food because their bodies can not produce that color. I saw a picture of a flock of Flamingos that were an off white due to a drought making the food they got their color from hard to find.
