If you want the very best bang for your buck, the original Sony RX10 is an excellent camera.... Keh has some used in excellent condition in your price range. New is a little over your range but the one here rated EX+ is almost like new. I have one of these and you won't be disappointed in the image quality or capabilities.

I would probably look into a variety of bridge cameras (they look like a dslr but only have one lens that goes from wide angle to zoom). My brother and sister both use Canon bridge cameras and they produce great results. I have a Fujifilm Finepix S8650, which is now out of production. I brought it with me on a day trip to San Francisco, when visiting family in CA. I didn't want to lug around my multiple DSLRs with multiple lenses on them. That little camera (which cost $116 at the time) turned out great 11x14 prints. I photographed Alcatraz from the marina, using the super telephoto mode, and you can see the people walking around on "The Rock." It took a number of tries to get that photo because of camera shake on my part. I was able to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge (from a number of places and the photos all enlarged to 11x14 without a problem).

Can't really recommend anything meaningful to you unless I know what you want to shoot and/or the 35mm equivalent zoom length you want.

As TheShoe said above, the FZ1000 is a very good camera. It can cover a wide range of shooting options. Without more info from you it would be a great generic pick. I like mine a lot.

For work, my daughter gets a new cellphone every couple years. She says the new Samsung S9 cellphone has the best photo quality of any kind so far.

That's true for many. It does retouching automatically. People who take pictures of themselves like cameras like that.

I like my Nikon Series 1 J5 camera. It is exceptional for a point and shot camera. It is a mirrorless camera with interchangeable lens. I use it in dimly lit European churches or on cruise ships, etc. Very versatile and compact...keep it in my pocket.

In referencing your post, she works for an ad agency and takes photos of many things at many times of the day/evening. It's not just the shot of herself.
