Any significant differences?

The D3400 lacks the vibrating dust cleaner of the D3200, and the built in flash has only about half the power of the one on the D3200. The D3200 has the Exspeed 3 processor and the D3400 has Exspeed 4, so it may focus a hair faster. The D3200 has an AA filter and the D3400 dose not, so the D3400 can show a little more fine detail in the images. I have a D3200, and it's still a fine camera for most everyday photography. I have no experience with the D3400.

I have owned a D3100 and currently own a D3300. I recently looked at some old D3100 photos, and they were great. Some printed at 16 x 20. I have to believe the D3200 is even better. I like the D3300 without AA filter and bigger sensor than the D3100. Not sure I would like no sensor cleaner in the D3400.

The truth is it is too easy to get caught up in the latest specs for most uses. The D3200 with a 35mm dx will be excellent. Add a 10-20mm and a 55-200mm and you are done.

Amend: not sure the D3200 will shoot afp lenses. Might need a different WA, like a tokina 11-16mm. Ability to use the new afp lenses would be a reason for the D3400.

To do wifi or gps on a d3200 you need to stick an ugly wart thingie on the side. The d3400 has them built in, transceiving thru cutaways in the frame. Otherwise, same camera same pictures. The d3400 is newer, the d3200 is sturdier.

The D3400 has SnapBridge. The D3300 is a better choice in my opinion. However, despite some shortcomings, as earlier mentioned, the Nikon D3400 still remains a big entry level DSLR seller. You can buy a rocket blower to blow off the dust on the sensor. And you can always buy an inexpensive aftermarket flash unit. Like a Yongnuo Brand. Less than $100. If you plan to shoot indoors a lot, I recommend buying an external flash unit. It is a camera worth buying.

Yes go with the D3300 - best of the three models in the range IMO. The 3200 has an AA filter I believe. The biggest drawback of the 3400 is the lack of a sensor cleaner - which tells me Nikon brands this as a throw away "training wheels" camera - all three however are nice and compact for travel (providing you don't stick a 150-600 superzoom on it :) )

AA low pass filtering (smudging of sharpness) was not removed from the D3200. That happened with the D3300.

Nikon has been removing AA Low pass filtering on all their various model lines to increase sharpness. Happened on FF 2-3 models ago.

I have not purchased any camera with AA low pass for years. Fujifilm never used it. Olympus was the first to substantially remove it from their mirrorless.

Some people poo poo that move. I consider it substantial.
