Mega Food and cruise ships

Okay, after reading all the scuff about so many people becoming ill on cruise ships (to which I do not agree), and reading that after watching Mega Food, the episode that should cause illness, some on here to saying "the food handling should cause so much of the illness", I watched the episode twice. I noticed chiefs handling beef with bear hands, just like they do in our local fine restaurants. (Of course, they thoroughly wash their hands before hand.) But it appeared that everyone else was wearing gloves, and over all, there was no improper food handing.

So if anyone was discouraged from a cruising experience, by the bad comments on here, consider..again..the merits of the cruising experience.

I noticed that the butcher at my local store had bare hands when he handled my T-Bone steaks the other day. It doesn't really bother me because I know that I'll be charring the meat and cooking it to a temperature that will kill any bacteria.

As far as cruise ships are concerned, I have only heard of the flu like illness that are usually viral in nature. You are stuck on a ship with nowhere to go and if someone has a very contagious disease it's likely you'll contract it. I don't go on cruises because I am always fighting my weight and cruises are known for the cuisine and the pampering of the passengers with food and drink. I don't drink alcohol either so that's another reason I don't cruise. But I have family and some friends that do cruise every chance they get.

I've been on three cruises, and the only problem i had had nothing to do with the food! Food was wonderful. The OCEAN was not! I'm NOT a sailor!

At one time, I thought a cruise would be interesting. I even briefly considered working for a cruise line. However, after reading numerous reports, I've decided that locking myself in a floating petri dish with a couple thousand others for extended periods of time, for work or fun, is simply not a good idea. As a result, I'll courteously relinquish my "cabin" to some other daredevil.

I was very skeptical on my first one. I had to be 'dragged, kicking all the way'. By the second day at sea, I realized it was the most amazing vacation ever. It was transatlantic, so guess what? No electronics, none. I had plenty of work I -could- do on a computer, tablet, and smart phone. But...not in the middle of the Atlantic. So I had to "relinquish" and just ... relax. A very rare experience indeed. I highly recommend it.

We had always admired cruise ships from a distance...the size of them but it wasnt until we actually booked one and got aboard and then got to really appreciate what the whole experience was about. After 2 days i was saying to myself "we gotta do this again".

I know what you mean. I kept on thinking "there are imposters in my cabin".

There will always be some who will never do anything if there is a .00005% chance of something going wrong. Good luck to them, they’re entitled to do or not do whatever they want.
