Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself to the group.

I’m a New York transplant, been in Tampa for 8 years. I’m just getting back into photography seriously. I Was always a Canon user (started back in the mid-70s with an Ftb, then AE1 and A1) and did my own developing and printing. A few years back I bought a Nikon d3300 with two kit lenses, used it a few times then into the closet it went. I was fooled by the camera in my iPhone! I dug it back out when my grandson was born and now it’s always within reach.

I don’t specialize in any particular type of photography; a good image is a good image, no matter the subject!

If anyone is in the neighborhood, I’d enjoy getting out for a photo walk now and then.

Happy shooting!

Ralph (TampaRalph)

Thanks, Mac! My folks are in Spring Hill. I’m up there often. I’m gonna try some snorkeling with my GoPro in the Weeki Wachi outside the park. I’ve often seen manatee near Doctor’s Spring.

Welcome aboard. It may take some foot work, but you should be able to find some kind of camera / photography club in your area. Good hunting and good luck.

Welcome aboard! I'm also from NY and retired now here in Carrollwood(Tampa). There are lots of places to shoot photographs in the Tampabay area and some UHH members hook up on a regular basis.

Hi Ralph,

Go down Bayshore to Ballast Point. There is a park there and across the street is a riding stable. You can often get pictures of "jumps" and of solo horses. There is a neat sandwich/icecream shop there and water park for kids. A neat pier and clear shots of the Tampa skyline. The brick road has a beautiful tree overhang.
I live in St. Pete and currently am suffering from a broken foot. So I'm not out-and-about right now, but when I'm better, maybe we can go out for a shoot.

Hi Ralph, br br Go down Bayshore to Ballast P... (show quote)

I know that park, having fished from that pier quite a few times. I will definitely head down to the stables; it completely slipped my mind! It's just down Bayshore from my apartment. If you know the area, you'll have a pretty good idea of where I live from this panorama taken from my balcony. Downtown Tampa is in the distance mid-frame (just about two miles away), Bayshore Blvd and Hillsborough Bay to the right, and the Fox13 radar tower on Kennedy near the left edge.

Get that foot healed up soon and get in touch! I'd enjoy getting out for a shoot. St Pete has some interesting architecture, nice marinas, and of course that amazing banyan tree in the park near the Museum of Fine Art.

I, too, say, "Welcome aboard." You will certainly find this to be one
of the best sites in the world - and it spreads pretty much all around
the world.
I have to say that I like all the comments concerning the Tampa Bay
area. I'm from IL originally, but retired from the Army at MacDill AFB
there in Tampa and lived for roughly 32 yrs just east of Tampa in the
town of Brandon.
After leaving the service, I worked in downtown Tampa, watching a lot
of its downtown as well as the surrounding area grow. When we fully
retired, we moved up here to SC about 13 yrs ago to be closer to family
but not all the way into the cold winters in IL. Many of the locals here
refer to us as 'half backs' - being from a northern state, having lived in
FL for a number of years, and then moving half-way back. They say
they see a lot of that in this area.
Again, welcome aboard, and maybe we'll be able to refer to you as
a 'half back' someday . . .
