A county park, Carriage Hill Farms is located on the northeast edge of the Dayton area. During the summer season they put on regular demonstrations of many horse drawn farms implements. This old sickle bar seemed to stand out on a cold winter day.

I pulled one that was converted to a short tongue, with an old Farmall H. Thanks for the comment.

I've seen those but didn't know what on earth they were used for until today. Beautiful shot, Phil, and I learned something as well.

Thanks Donna, I'm showing my age (77), but I had the rare privilege of experiencing the thrill of growing up around, and learning to work with teams of horses and mules. When I stumbled across this park it was like walking into the past. The good part it is only about 5 miles from the house. Needless to say it has become one of my favorite places to visit with a camera.

As near as I can remember Carla, the were miserable. I was very young and was not allowed to handle a team unless it was hooked to a wagon. Come to think of it, the tractor seats were also miserable Thanks for noticing the composition, and thanks for those encouraging words. Take care my friend!

You're very fortunate to have this treasure so close to home, Phil.

Some how I suspect that many of us,(including me) overlook many photographic opportunities that are under our nose and have been there for years. Getting old has its' advantages. Smile!

Yea, that's an oldie...looks a bit dangerous if things got out of hand. I've seen this place on satellite images when I was looking around Dayton one day when I was bored. Glad you found it. Looks like a great place for nostalgic things. Nice job adding the barn as a backdrop.

Thanks Pete, I think the fact that it was well maintained and kept in working order impressed me. Seeing something in a museum is nice, seeing something restored and still being used is wonderful!

I can't tell you how many lectures, warnings, and demonstrations I received when I was a boy. Countless fingers have been lost because of carelessness and being in a hurry when lifting the bar up straight. I do appreciate you mentioning the barn, some times it takes effort and time for me to get some kind of composition into an image. Unless someone mentions it, you always feel you failed to some degree. Take care my friend and be well!
