Gas prices in 1978 were around $0.60 to $0.70 cents per gallon however if it was taken out service around 1971 during the gas wars that $0.15 would be about correct.

I can also remember the gas wars from the early 60's when stations had people standing by signs marking prices down as the guy across the street lowered his price. I can remember it down to 12 - 15 cents a gallon. 5 bucks went a long ways in the 60's!

I remember back around 1971, 1972, I had a Ducati 250 scrambler and I could fill the fuel tank for under $1.50 US which would put the gasoline at more that double $0.15 a gallon.

I remember signs from the 60's gas wars that read: "We'll give you the gas if you pay the tax!"

That 1960,s 5 bucks is about 25 bucks now. My first job , out of college, in 1966 was $6400 per year. When I retired 10 years ago I was making that each month.

It also took several hours of work to earn 5 bucks. In the early '60s it would take me four hours to make that much at $1.25 per hour.

I don't recall paying 15¢/gallon but I do remember it fluctuating around 25¢/gallon.

I remember during the '70s buying gas by the liter during the "gas shortages" when the price rose to over a dollar a gallon. The pumps wouldn't go over $.999 per gallon, hence they sold it by the liter. For the uninitiated, a liter is approximately a quart.

Hope you don't mind an added photo to your post. If you do I will delete the photo.
This is still standing in Telluride. Photo taken in 2015, must have stopped working
at about the same time as your gas pump! Nice photo!

I got my license in 1967 and was the first one in our neighborhood to get a motorcycle. Started with a Suzuki 80cc, moved up to a Honda 160cc Scrambler, then to a Honda 305cc Scrambler and a '57 Chevy until I went in the Navy in 1970. As I remember, gas was around 25 cents/gal (there's no cent sign on this keyboard) at that time.

No problem! I always liked those glass bubbles with the little thing inside that spun as you pumped gas, it let you know that something was actually going in your tank.

I got my license in 1958 and my first motorcycle was a Suzuki 80cc also. From there I graduated to a '74 Honda 360, then a Kawasaki 650, a Honda GL1000 Goldwing, a Honda 1500cc Valkyrie and currently a Honda 700cc Magnum. Kind of wish I still had the Valkyrie but the Magnum is lighter and easier to maneuver. The Honda 360 was the only new bike I ever owned, the rest were used.

I don't think any keyboard has a cent key on them. If you want one you can press and hold the Alt key and type 0162, like this ¢. Looks like it only works if you type the 0162 on the keypad, not the top row of the keyboard. That's for a PC, don't know about Macs. For a degree sign, hold Alt and type 0176, as in 85°. Those are the two I use the most. There are others in the Character Map.

My first bike was a lime green Kawasaki 90. I got my license in 1971 but started riding motorized two wheel vehicles when I was 13. The irony is I didn't start riding bicycles until I was 12 because as a child I broke my right leg several times and my parents were afraid to let me learn. My father passed away right before my 13th birthday and it was easier to get away with stuff with mom.
I started with a home made mini bike with a 5 hp lawn mower engine. A buddy and I pooled our money and bought a used Kawasaki 90.
I too had a Honda 305 scrambler. Bought it in pieces, several boxes of pieces, and with a few new parts and a few used parts, put it back together and it worked. The first bike I owned myself was the Ducati. I also bought a Kawasaki Big Horn that needed some work, fixed it up and fell in love with trail riding. I didn't get my first real street bike until several years later. I had a Kawasaki 750 triple 2 stroke, an H2 mach IV. That was one scary motorcycle. Too quick, too fast, too light, handled like crap, it was fun.
When I decided it was time for something a bit more practical I bought a new KZ 650 and after a while had a fairing put on it. That was my last street bike with a drive chain. My next two bikes were a Kawasaki 750 Spectre followed by a 1100 Spectre. Both bikes had factory fairing and saddle bags. The only chrome on those bikes was the fuel tank key hole cover. They were black and gold with black chrome.
My first true touring bike, which I still own, was a Kawasaki Voyager XII. I'm on my 3rd Goldwing, a new out of the box silver 2014 GL1800.
I'm trying to talk the wife into trading it in on a 2018 model, while it's still worth something.
