Since we were "in the neighborhood", my daughter and I set upon lobbying to go to Virginia Beach to see the ocean. Due to the 40 degree temps and additional driving, my husband adamantly said NO. But after dropping the boyfriend back at base and saying goodbyes for the next seven weeks, my daughter was feeling pretty blue. Looking at her sad little face, my husband immediately acquiesced and we were off on our hour long drive to Virginia Beach. Of course, it was also in the low 40s there, not to mention cloudy and VERY windy .... resulting in a windchill in the 20s, well maybe 30s! Bottom line .... it was COLD! The few other people on the beach had on winter coats and hats! Well we parked and walked down to the waters edge in our flip flops, walked ankle deep into the water (NOT my hubbie) and quickly retreated back to the car. Took half the trip back to the hotel before I could feel my toes again!! My husband and daughter did wait for me, albeit impatiently, to get a few shots of the beach .... very hurried and of out focus shots. Even though they aren't top quality images, I decided to share anyway since I have taken you all on my virtual vacation through my other posts! We spent a total of 2 hours driving there and back .... for 9 minutes tops on the beach! Oh what we do for our children hahaha. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this last installment of my vacation. Thanks for viewing!

Great images, Christy, and thank you for sharing your adventures with us hogs!

I have to tell you though, there is no "ugly day" at the beach...cold ones definitely, but never ugly.

On one of my first "solo" camping trips I went to Virginia Beach to get away and start recovering from a nasty divorce. Anyway, arrived on a Friday evening, had a wonderful weekend, but at the crack of dawn on Monday I was awakened by the thundering sound of Navy Jets taking off and flying very low overhead. Every day, same thing...never needed an alarm clock!

Thanks again, Christy for sharing and bringing back some pretty good memories!

In this series of photographs I particularly like the beach scenes.

Well worth the drive and the cold. The one of the buildings is really great.

50 years ago I was stationed at Cinclantflt Headquarters near the Norfolk Naval Station. Had a little house at Oceanview right on the beach.
Walked the beach nearly everyday. Many trips to Virginia Beach. Have not been there since early 80s. Thanks for taking me there.
Nice shots. Good to know that it still looks the same.

Christy, you certainly made good use of your few shivering moments at the beach. These are very nice shots and the memories of this little side trip will give all of you pleasure in the future!

Thanks Rolk and I am glad I brought back good memories! You are right ... No ugly days at the beach, I just had sour grapes over the fact we only spent 9 min there when I had brought a blanket and wanted to just sit, look and listen for awhile. Just not the day at the beach I had envisioned, but does make for good memories and a funny story. :) thanks for sharing your story!

Thanks Lexiflex .... I think my favorite is the 3rd image with the lil bird between the sand dunes looking at me, followed by the buildings. Thanks for viewing!

Trackmag its time you went back! But definately wait until LATE spring or summer so you dont get caught in the crazy snow pattern the east can't seem to shake! We changed our plans and left at midnight just to outrun storm #4. Thanks for sharing your memory!

Carol, you comment was spot on! My husband has already recanted our story, along with embellishing it, to several people. ... With his slant of how ridiculous it was! But I am glad we went, I love the ocean and am happy for the few photos that I did get to capture the memories. Thanks for responding!

That it does, Jimmy! That is does! Poor wording on my part as I tried to describe the day and why my images were so dark and dreary. But i would much prefer to be in the sand shivering than back at work now!!! Just glad I did at least get my few 9 minutes ... Totally worth it! Have a good day.
