I have posted a few cell phone pics on this site, one just yesterday but cellphones are limiting in that they can't change lenses and most can't zoom. Yes, there are aux lenses available for them but the quality sucks. The biggest issue (IMHO) is their tiny sensor. Images are OK when viewed online, but they don't print large very well...

There is no skill or knowledge required to press a button. Without filters cell phones are just point and shoot.

Yes cell phones are just point and shoot. But having some artistic ability and being in the right place at the right time with can produce "some" amazing images...

It's still a camera.
If you made a category for cell phones, would you not have to make categories for film cameras, view cameras, large format cameras, or point-n-shoots?

Thanks for mentioning this! Shooting with a cellphone requires and develops an understanding of composition and of light. Cellphone pix can tell a story too. They can be edited. Some phones have creative filters that are fun. There are some amazing cellphone photos!

—-Twenty of the world’s best photos taken with cellphones. 2015.
I’ve posted a few iphone shots on this forum because I thought they were pretty good (and it’s much easier to grab a couple off my phone than go to my computer for my Sony a6000 ones.). I alway feel I should disclose they are from a phone. I also do little editing so far.
I’m a novice and I learn a lot on this site. But I think many members forget that not everyone can or will spend $$$$$$ for cameras and lenses and all the accessories and add-ons.
I’m in a wonderful camera club in which there are many expert photographers with top of the line equipment and published photos and awards. But everyone is welcome there—-cellphone and point-n-shoot users too. The pros are generous with help. Very few feel a need to brag about their pricey equipment.
UHH may not need a section just for cellphone pix, but it could certainly make those photographers feel more welcome by validating their vision and work, not disdaining it.
(Sorry this is so long. )

Catagories away!
I think its the uniqness of the photo as well as the ability to get close RIGHT HERE AND RIGHT NOW! versus large cumbersum equipment that makes it almost impossible for an impulse shot.
To say capture something happening in nature.
Not to mention the intimidation factor with
oh say small insects, trying to get close with a big giant lense..i have found the 16 megapixl camera on my samsung smart phone (after countless hours of practice) to be exellent for capturing these moments..

I think maybe suggesting its own category was the wrong way to put it..
But i guess i kind of impulsively did it because the majority of the pictures i view in galleries are takin with high dollar equip..

I have found my macro setup with my DSLR and macro lens much more suited to getting insect pix than my iPhone 6s ever can. My cell phone camera is more for snapshot type images...

Maybe because that's what most people here use?

Not to berate cell phone pics but I have never seen any planned photos coming out of that device-just impulsive spur of the moment captures (snap shots).

Really learning photography is knowing how to stage and shape light, blur the background, use the sun for a backlight and overpower the sun with light or high speed sync, etc. I only use a cell phone to capture items I intend to paint in which case the image can be less than stellar. I don’t care how many pixels the camera has, the size of the censor determines the quality of the print. The difference between a Drone camera with a cell phone censor and the newer ones with the full frame DSLR censors is just amazing.
