Sending a new lens back... Works perfectly.
Unusual reverse brown truck thread...
I recently purchased a new lens, a good one: the Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG Art.
I works perfectly, creates incredibly sharp captures BUT.... The damned thing weights a ton and a half. I am not exactly weak but I do not see myself carry this thing around as I am other lenses.
So it goes back, regretfully.

Check the 85 f/1.4 Zeiss Otus - it’s 2,997.49 pounds lighter.
I think at about 40 ounces it's heavy. But I'd love to have it! Being a young 68 I know I could carry this on a 10 mile hike easily on my 6d2. But not in any budget I can produce though...
Same lens I have been interested in, but now with what you said not so much. I made a comparison.
Nikon 105mm macro 1.58 lb 720g
Sigma Art 85mm 1.81 lb 820g
Nikon 70-200mm with mounting collar 1.87 lb 850g
If you own any of these you can decide if you want to use the sigma with its weight not to mention the size.
I thank you Rongnongo for your post. I will not be buying the Sigma Art lens.

Actually it's 1243.23 pounds heavier

Wow, my walkaround lens is 2860g.
Here I am walking around with it.
The one (1) & quite possibly the only truth I'm sure I've learned about this wonderful hobby is:
Beware --
Whatever you purchase your going end up carrying

That was 20 years ago!!!!
Now thew beard is longer, the smile a bit more contrived due to the effort lugging this stuff along...
(I am making this up as I go along, or info... I have no clue).
I have a question about the 85mm 1.4, which my Nikon salesman also has. Why is a 1.4 needed on a portrait lens?

As I recall, you’re a Nikon shooter. How about the Nikor 85 f1.8G ? Not quite as fast or as sharp, but a LOT lighter (12oz), or even the Nikor 85mm f1.4 at 21oz (~half the weight of the Sigma) as an alternative? I know the Sigma is a great lens in terms of sharpness, but if you can’t live with the weight, you’ll need to compromise somewhere.

I have given up for now. Later maybe. I am a slow buyer for anything that passes 250...
I had a 15-30mm zoom Sigma lens way back from film camera days. (For those who have not worked it out, the lens will cover FF format). It took a little time to discover that 'real focus' was not achievable further away from the camera, than about 10 feet. Stopping down (not using wide open aperture), tended to mask this error of sharp focus. Eventually (after the arrival of digital equipment) I sent the lens back to Sigma UK. thinking that they could rectify the focus problem. They could / would not, and offered me a brand new 18 - 35 f/1.8 Art lens at a very attractive discount/trade-in. I accepted their offer, although I have FF and crop Nikon bodies, was a little hesitant about the replacement would only cover Crop format. The 18-35 Art, is absolutely first class.... heavy, yes...perhaps about as heavy as the redundant 15-30 lens. But Sharp as I ever expect any lens to be. No problem about using this lens wide-open whenever I want limited Depth of Field. Well done Sigma !!

I'm 67. This was taken last summer, so I have to thank RGG for the wonderful compliment!!! My current avatar is a few weeks old.
I was poking a bit of fun though. During certain times of the year I do a lot of bird photography, and my walk around lens really is my 150-600 Sport. It's on a sling strap and I will hike several miles to get my shots. Besides, I often shoot with a couple of girls (63 and 70) who basically carry the same gear hand held as well. We New Yorkers have a better build quality!!
RGG, sorry for hijacking your thread- I hope you don't mind...
