I am used to focus with the back button, on my nikon camera.
I bought a Sony Rx10 1V, but have not been able to do that. I will appreciate it if any one knows how to to set the AEL button on the back of the Sony camera, for focusing.
Thank you.
Rashid

This may be what you are looking for.

At the 4 minute mark is back focus.

You do have to go through the menus.

First Menu tab, page 5/14, set AF with Shutter to OFF>, then you go to the Second Menu Tab, page 9/10, select Custom Key (Shoot.), go to page 2/2 and assign the AEL Button to AF-On. Clearly you can assign the AF-On to other controls, but for me this works like my other cameras. You can also add this to the custom menu (last menu tab) as a favorite control.

Thank you so much for your response. However, when I went to page 2/2 of custom key (shoot), I see the AEL Button, but apposite it says: "AEL Hold" not AF. No luck! Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again.

You have to drill down into the menu options for AEL Button. I use the center button in the dial to do that. The options are all there.

Thank you, so much. I found it! But now I lost the beep sound!

The beep is annoying to others around you - this is not a bad thing. If you shoot single shot drive and not continuous servo (selectable using the switch on the bottom right side as you stare at the lens from the front) you'll get the beep back. You really do need to relax and go through all the menu options. There is a lot to learn - the RX10 cameras do have a steep and long learning curve, but in time you'll find that there is little you can't do - like focus while zooming, which is a pain for someone who is accustomed to being able to track focus on moving subjects while zooming. But in the big picture, it's a small thing.

Thank you for your advice and help. I agree with everything you said. I have a tendency to get impatient! Thanks, again.

I was no different when I got mine in December. So I took a couple of deep breaths, grabbed a bottle of pinot noir, and went through everything.

Do you think a bottle of pinot noir will help me learn things faster?

* I won't bore everyone with the details but you can turn the sounds on or off. I also recommend they be turned off.
*The advice about custom keys is good.
* There is a focus hold button on the side of the lens barrel.
