I shot this Lion at the Arizona Wildlife Zoo near Phoenix through a chain-link fence (tricky).
Hand held @ 800mm. Distance was about 60-75 feet away for the Lion.

Canon 5Dsr - Canon 400 II DO f4 - Canon 2x III - 1/80 - f/8 - ISO @ 250.

Beautiful image, Regis. Excellent composition and focus. Speaking of "focus," judging on him licking his chops, was he focusing on you?

How hard was it "through the fence?"

I'm glad there was a fence and wall between us. Thank you very much, Rolk.

A fairly strong prime or zoom lens would be placed as close to the chain-link fence opening as possible and the animal should be at least 10-20 feet from the fence. The telephoto lens
will blur the metal part of the fence to some degree. It's better to have that portion of the fence in the shade. If the sun hits the fence, it will cause a bright glare in the photo. Straight on or slightly
angle shot is best. A normal lens or wide angle lens will not work as well because it won't cause a blur in the fencing.
This has a similar effect as when you take a shot of a distant mountain and there might be a small tree branch in the fore-ground which will be focused out and will just show the mountain.
Experiment.

He knows he's king. You have portrayed him quite majestically. Even licking one's chops can be seen of some historical monarchy. You have captured him well,Regis.
