This is honestly my favorite, but I didn't originally post it here because it's actually "safe for work". In fact, it's my wallpaper on my phone's lock screen, so every time I pick up the phone I see it :)

Thanks, I should have moved a few inches to the right to separate the palm trunk from the roof of the pier, but I didn't notice it at the time.

Riviera Maya, south of Cancun. We got up early this particular morning in order to take a few pics of the sunrise, I've been many times and NEVER seen the water this calm there.

Take your suggestion as a post processing challenge. It should not be hard to move the roof a bit to the right and fill in the gaps from the background.

I didn't sit and study the picture I just gave it a casual viewing. I didn't notice the roof at all until you pointed it out and I looked for it.

I certainly don’t consider myself skilled at photo manipulation but I had a very gratifying experience a few years ago with an image that I fixed up with a simple cloning tool. The photo was a closeup of a soldier in camouflage clothing lying in the woods. Unfortunately there were a few small branches in the foregoing that I had not noticed but my fill flash had no trouble making them very visible... right over the soldier’s shoulder and helmet. Since the clothing was camouflage pattern I didn’t really have to recreate the fabric exactly, so I simply cloned small areas from random parts of the uniform and helmet to get rid of the branches.

A magazine approached me for images for an article so I was flipping through them fairly quickly, and the original image followed by the retouched image came up on the screen. My kudo was when the photo editor for the magazine exclaimed “Wow!” when he saw the second image.

My point is that the roof might be quite simple to relocate, and you could clone in the gap because of the simplicity of the scene in that part of the image.

A veritable travel poster. I would leave the "connection" of the tree with the dock-house as is It suggests a frame within the frame.
