I saved these pictures from a Facebook post. The first is of a yellow cardinal taken recently in Alabaster, Alabama and posted originally in Wild Birds Unlimited (Birmingham, Alabama) and the second was from a reply that said the picture was taken in Meridian, Mississippi. I have never seen one myself (and was not aware there was such a creature).
That's a keeper. I would trip over myself to get a picture of such a cardinal. Battery would probably be dead or the SD card would fail.
Wow. I've never heard of such a color for a cardinal. Great capture. vz
Amazing. I had no idea either. Thanks for posting these.

Beautiful shots!
Are they perhaps ArchBishops with the yellow vestments?
Never heard of a yellow cardinal before - are they common in the South or is it some form of mutation?

The Facebook page from which I took the pictures and the information had this information about the first picture:
Charlie Stephenson of Alabaster, AL, has a special visitor. This yellow cardinal has a rare mutation that knocks out the pathway for production of red pigments, according to Geoffrey Hill of Auburn University. While rare, a yellow cardinal turns up somewhere in the U.S. almost every year.
I haven't seen a yellow cardinal in my area, only the blue and red. Hope i'll see one someday.

I saw one on Facebook a few days ago on a group called Birds of a Feather, taken by Jeremy Black Photography. I was born and raised in Birmingham and at the ripe old age of 80 and I have never seen one either. My son lives in Gadsden Al and I'd love for him to tell me he sees them there!
1st time seeing one of these - thanks for posting!
Amazing captures, I grew up not far from Alabaster and have travelled through there untold hundreds of times and have never seen such a critter. I am envious!!
Never heard of, or seen a yellow cardinal either. I get lots of cardinals at my feeders, but never a yellow one. The second one is very nice. Thanks for posting.
