If you're a Costco Member, keep an eye out for sales on the HP Omen 880-037c Desktop. - Intel Core i7, 8GB Graphics, 32 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, 1 TB HDD. Currently $1699, but I picked one up for $1175, and it screams. If you're interested, search their site for: HP Omen 880-037c Desktop - Intel Core i7 - 8GB Graphics

Agree.

No matter which system you buy Mac/PC, buy at least 16 gigs RAM and 1TB SSD drive.

I agree. Wish I still had my iMac. Far better operating system than Billy G's crappy Windows.

Personal choice - for me I prefer the Mac Desktop and MacBook laptop. Get an external drive. I prefer the 27" Retina monitor

At a computer tech / IT guy I’ll say this you give the age at 4-5 years old. It's overheating. Has it ever had a tune up? Have you ever cleaned out where the air exhausts from.
Most likely your computer is packed with a slew of temp files and cookies that will eat up resources. Also in cooling the laptop, there is a small radiator inside to disperse heat. That's probably clogged with dust. You can fix both of these issues for free or under 10.00. First if you hah a compressor, set the pressure at about 15 lbs or so and blow into the exhaust area with short bursts. That will clear the dust. Also, blow into the ports and any grilled intake the same way.
Next google 3 programs.

First google “Hitman” virus remover. Its free install and run it chick the but for one-time use and put in your email address when asked to activate it. Let me know what it finds

Next download these two programs.

1: TFC. Temp file cleaner. It's free.
2 : Find and download CCleaner free

Run all three of these programs in the order i listed them

If you don't see an improvement after thus us done then your computer is toast but most likely it will run much better afterwards.
This one on me. Enjoy.

I have 2 external hard drives but I use them for backups. I have plenty of room left on my Seagate 2TB drive that resides on this Dell.

If you want to know what you have inside your computer use cpuid here is the link https://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.83-en.exe you might be able to use your computer you have just get an ssd drive and max out your ram. Also get an external hard drive to backup all photos or a nas system they have redundancy so if one hard drive dies you do not loose all your information.

Shut the computer down, check your fan to see if it's clogged with lint or dust. Either will cause the computer to heat up and run very slow. If the fan is clogged, take a can of compressed air and spray the fan good a couple time WHILE HOLDING THE FAN SO IT DOESN'T SPIN. You can use a paper clip to hold the fan. If you see a lot of dust, that is likely the cause of the computer slowdown.

I have an older HP Envy, which I purchased about 5 years back. Over time, it has served me well, but has been running like a pig and the fan seems to be doing some overtime especially when reviewing photos. I use Lightroom and feel like the action is always 1 or 2 clicks behind. I am looking at investing a new PC and wanted to get some recommendations out there from folks who absolutely love what they have.

The internal debate I have been having is pretty standard...laptop vs. desktop, PC vs. Mac, cost vs. not caring, etc. Anyway, I have been gravitating towards the all in ones I have seen out there based on price and for the ability to double as a TV in my office. However, I have a 24" monitor that I use for work that I also connect my personal lap to when I am viewing/editing pictures. Obviously the portability comes into play for the laptop, but I have my iPad if I really needed something portable with me.

Last fall I upgraded my computer to a Dell XPS 15 with the 4K display as I prefer the portability of the laptop for my needs. I have used it extensively since November for photo editing and assembling presentations with music and effects for various groups, and it has performed great. There was no comparison dollar for dollar and image quality wise with the Mac or anything else in the way of a laptop I could find. This machine has the highest specs offered as it is available in many configurations, if you decide you want a laptop do yourself a favor and compare the XPS 15 4K display and the Mac retina side by side, in this instance I feel you get much more in terms of processing capability and display quality for less money. My honest opinion.

I just bought a fully-loaded iMac Pro, and I am in heaven. What a gorgeous display screen!

Recently replace a HP 17" laptop with a HP 24" all in one, very happy, $$ worked, got the insides I wanted, just watched for a sale on the HP site, Bob.

Absolutely IMac...dropped Windows years ago...Refurb Macbook Retina Display to carry with me everywhere...Excellent prices on Refurb IMac...it was worth paying notes on these things...paid off in a short time...they don't break...and they maintain their value very well. The quality is unmatchable...the displays are beautiful.

I really need to dump this Dell and go back to an iMac.

I think you should do this first unless you are set on buying a new one. Computers have thermal protection built in and if they reach their max operating temp will throttle back their speed to keep from over heating. Keep it clean and it will always perform it's best.

I have been using a 21” Mac for seven years after fighting with a PC before that. My new one is a 27”. I wouldn’t switch back for a free PC.
