I'm 66 and divorced. I am considering the purchase of a zoom digital camera [83x] but wonder about how much use it will get given my knee problems and arthritis in my lower back. My mobility is limited to flat, level areas. Climbing hills is out! Any suggestions?

You said you were going to buy a camera. I asked if you couldn't use "that" camera for macro work. I asked about macro work because you can do a lot of that with bad knees. One of my knees is a 15 year artificial one and it is the better of the two. I also do a lot of macro work and a good bit of my non macro photography is from the car, something else you can maybe do. People on this site are more than willing to try to help others with problems.

Welcome to the UHH Dave, at 75 I basically have the same problems as you, I haven't given up.

Maybe strenuous hikes are out, but that doesn't mean photography is out. Go to a park; go on drives and see what you can see from the road; go to a bird sanctuary and sit in a blind; sit on a city bench and watch who walks by; take still lifes; take macros; take a picture of a weed in your back yard... The list of possibilities is endless if you have the interest in using a camera.
My wife has a back problem that limits how much walking she can do. It means she can't go with me when I go hiking, but anything you can see from the road is fair game. Sunday drives are a mutual photo outing, and we stop so often we sometimes never get where we're going. Though I've been taking pictures for decades, she only took up the camera in the last fifteen years. She has a great eye from all those years as an artist, and it's fun to compare the different pictures we took at the same place.

Welcome to UHH Grampadave. There are plenty of things to photograph in flat level areas. No need to climb hills. I'm sure you can find plenty of places that are a short easy walk where you can sit and watch a sunset, or wait and watch for birds to photograph. Take pictures of flowers in gardens, bugs in the yard, etc. If you want to do it, go ahead and do it. You know your limitations, so do what you can do. There are plenty of things you can photograph without having to go on long hikes and climb hills.
