Here's Tallinn a port city in Estonia. It is night, the stars are out and the city appears dark. The Challenge is light the city and bring it to life by using the street lighting. It is night, the sky must stay dark. Zoom to 100% to see the stars. Imagine how the streets would look at night, illuminated by the street lights. There are street lights, out of sight, which are throwing light on the foreground. Remember the night sky and stars remain as you see them. Have fun.

While I am not the best at making edits to Shakey's pictures I have talked to Shakey and suggested helping others with the processes used in my edits. He said give it a try although many of you use different software programs. I will try to talk in generalities but be it known that I am using Adobe Photoshop. Many of my edits can be done in several different versions of Lightroom and other programs.

On this one I started with the base as Shakey supplied. The roof tops have been lightened just a bit to give it definition. The remaining picture has been lightened further by changing whites, exposure shadows and clarity. I didn't like the entrance on the left so I cleaned up and cloned the area. I don't know how many programs have this ability but in Photoshop you can choose the cloning tool and then flip it horizontally. This let me select the top of the right column and then moved my cursor over to the left column and paint down. As you paint and move to the left you can see your selection area is moving to the right. Just wanted to mention because I was unaware of this option for a long time and can be a big help for troubled areas. My final edit was to use the cloning tool and clean up several of the roof tops edges and add some yellow light to the center tower window.

Hope this has helped someone out there for their future edits.

Nice try, Revet. You were so enthusiastic you added light where the street lights could not reach. Check your roof tops the snow there should be darker to suit the night time image. Some other buildings are also too well lit to be convincing. It's a good try. You get four thumbs:

Golly, R.G. You got the lighting where it was supposed to be, which is good. You kept the stars and added more . I know sodium lighting gives a yellow tint but maybe you were a little too enthusiastic with the yellow color. I'll give you four thumbs for technique.

Oops! SoHillGuy, it's an attractive image but it does not meet the criteria. The sky should be dark, you got all kinds of light in the sky. The buildings are way too bright to be lit by street lights. What happened to your crop, it has odd looking edges? No it's not convincing. You get three thumbs today. What happened? This is below your usual standard.
