I will post pictures later as I do not have them with me here at work, but I was wondering if any here use a remote app from their phone? If so how does it work? Do you need to be connected at all times to wi fi? I have not set my camera yet for wifi. I use a Canon 6D. I have two tripods in which one has been modified so I can shoot from (guessing as I haven't fully extended yet) 15 to 30 feet up to get other angles of shots. Anyway, remote app users help me out please and thank you.

There has been a lot of talk about remote control via WiFi, but it will be interesting to see whether anyone is actually doing it {hint: if you are, please answer the OP}
I use a Fujifim remote app on my iPad and I’m happy with it. My phone is too basic to use such apps.
Yes, you do need WiFi unless you are using a wired remote.

I have tried a wifi app for Nikon and do not like it. It is easy to use, you turn on the camera wifi and connect your phone or tablet to that network and you will see the picture from your camera on the phone before you press the shutter button on the phone. But this is actually all the app does in regards to taking the picture so I prefer to use a ordinary remote or 2 sec delay. Wifi eats batteries.
This is only one app and probably one of the worst apps for remote control of cameras so it basically all depends on how good the app is. You will just have to try and see what app suits your needs best.
I do have a wired remote good for only certain heights and of course ground level. I'm not wanting to purchase another remote (wireless - yet).
You can get a nice used CamRanger on eBay for about $200 or get one New for about $300. Not inexpensive to many folks but it does work...
Best,
Todd Ferguson
I use an APP called “Slingshot” on my android phone and on my IPad Pro, wireless hook up with my Nikon D600 and the WiFi module. Works great there is a small cost for app but it works great. I also have CamRanger but found sling shot just as good and clear. I hope that helps, you need WiFi capabilities on camera but not internet WiFi hook up at time. I do the same as you but use my camera on twenty foot painters pole so I can get elevated shots of homes and can move it around easily.

If your camera has built-in WiFi then you should only need an app that can connect to it. If that WiFi connection is not adequate, then you can try an external device that provides the WiFi capability and connects to the camera. There have been a couple of projects on sites like Kickstarter that offer such devices and companion smartphone apps. One such is this:
Pulse that is camera agnostic, but requires a USB connection to the camera. I have one of these and it has been useful to me for a couple different projects. Hope this helps.
I used the CamRanger when I shot Nikon. Really liked it, especially for portrait sittings. I did a fund raiser where I shot a sitting every 5 minutes or so for 3.5 hours. Everybody was happy with the photos. Then I switched to Sony a6500 and tried to use the Sony Wireless but it would not connect. So, I used the tethered software and very happy with it. If asked, I would say, "if you have the need for remote, work on it to develop what works for you and it will be worth having another tool in the kit."
I won in a raffle an Extenda Wi-Fi DSLR Controller. I thought it would be nice to have since my T3i does not have wi-fi. So far, I've been able to took it up via an app on my phone, but for some reason cannot adjust the camera with the phone. Their customer service is waiting to hear back from me so I'm hesitant to comment whether or not it would be worth the effort.
Best of luck to you in finding a solution to your issue. I'm curious where this thread goes.
Thank you for the replies everyone. I will begin the research this weekend.

Now, get back to work. You're boss is looking over your shoulder right now.
Just the other day I downloaded the "Canon connect" free app for Android phones. Following the instructions on the app was able to connect wirelessly to my rebel t6i. Snapped a few quick photos. It worked really well. Have not had a chance to really test it out, but it did work. I would suggest making note of the wifi password the camera assigns.

Canon has a cell phone app that uses the phone's wifi to link to the camera wifi - you can download it for android (and I assume for iOS). The Android name Google Play store is Canon Camera Connect and its free. I use it for my 70D and can control all aspects of the exposure as well as receiving the photo taken on my phone. It also acts as a live viewer so you can see if you are in focus and zoom in make sure the focus is correct.
According to the document, it should be compatable with all wifi supported Canon bodies.
That's the one I have been considering. So it works rather well then? Can you focus with it?
