These are not very clear & sharp but in my haste to get them before they got away I didn't have time to compose the shots. I was trying to walk & shoot at the same time. They were moving along pretty fast & over 100ft' away. The spotted thing--dog? was with what I'm assuming was a coyote. Do they mix with dogs??? First & only sighting of a coyote taken a couple years ago.

Dog/coyote

Thank you & thanks for looking. My neighbor said the black one was a coyote. It will be interesting to see what UHHs have to say. Never saw a dog with ears that large, come to think of it.

They look like dogs to me. At least the coyotes we have around here don't look like those two.

In my opinion, they both look like dogs.

I've seen lots of coyotes around here (southern Arizona) and none of them ever looked like that. My guess is that the top one is an Australian Cattle Dog mix. Not sure about the bottom one, but we've got several like him at the animal shelter where I volunteer. Might be a black lab mix.

The spotted one looks a bit like an elderly corgi.

As for the ears on the black one....my min pin has large ears for the size of her head, because thank goodness whoever lost her did not crop her ears when they docked her tail. The black one is in what appears to be a feral stance, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a lab/dobie mix. It's hard to say from a pic, and especially a single, isolated pic, but neither looks like a coyote or even a coyote mix to me.

Coyotes and dogs will breed with each other. Here in PA, back in the 1960's, when coyotes began to move into the northern counties, there were many sightings of inner breeding. We called them Coy-dogs. We have seen black coyotes while on our hunting trips and I think that's what your 2nd pic is. I also think your 1st pic is a Coy-dog.

   Nice captures.

Definitely not a Corgi. The ears on the first were about twice as large & the legs were about as long as a lab. Wish I could have gotten a better shot. Now for a dumb question: what is a feral stance? I looked it up in my dictionary & stance is a position for fb. players. I googled black coyotes & the only ones that came up were some that had been killed so that didn't help much. Thanks for viewing.

Thankyou for viewing. I just wish I had better shots to show. Maybe they will come back around; if they haven't been shot (killed)

Yeah, I kinda thought the spotted one was some kind of dog but the ears on the black one made me wonder. They were traveling together also. The pics don't do justice. Thanks for viewing.

Much better photo than the ones I got. Thanks for looking. How did you get close enough to get that one?
