Excellent idea! I'm a sucker for Orchids, particularly the Ladies Slippers variety! So, #2 really appeals to me. It's so sharp it appears to jump out of the frame! I saw a similar one at a Lowe's in Rockledge/Cocoa, FL, in Dec. I purchased the green/white one. All are great shots! Thanks for sharing with us!

your local Lowes, Home Depot or other garden center. Most are very tolerant of photographers. You really can't use a tripod and you have to take the setting as is but working your subject will usually minimize distractions. Here are a few shots from a bad weather visit to Lowes.

These are beautifully done Carol. They are perfect examples of why you have been on my buddy list for so long, they are to learn from!

Great shots, colorful. Lowes, locally, won't allow photography inside the floral area.

Great shots, beats sitting indoors in inclement weather.

Thank you, Blaster. Looks like we are sliding back into a few days of cold and dreary conditions. I’m glad to have places where I can still shoot!

Nice, very nice captures...and I thought all you could get at Lowe's was nuts and bolts...and I look to politics for our nuts!!

You’re definitely right about the primary source of nuts! Lowe’s has just about everything but the garden center is my favorite part! I’m glad you like these.

Hi, Corky, and thank you. I'll gladly share my flowers! I have wondered what the stores did in colder climates. I guess there wouldn't be much of a market for things to plant outside right now. Our store has an enclosed area with house and patio plants. That's where I found the orchids.

Yes, Carol, our store also has that section and is a very welcome repreve at this time of the year. I forgot several things at the grocery stpre yesterday so while in the area dropped by again and the tall chain length fencing where the outside flowers are usually kept in the warmer months and even the entrance gates were covered with black polly, so perhaps they are trying to protect a few plants for a few weeks. Take care!

Outstanding Carol. You get better lighting in the store as you do in the bright outside sun.

Thank you, Mike. The lighting is consistent and there is also protection from the elements!

When I visit Home Depot I always roam around the garden section. You are right, there are many beautiful flowers there. I have never asked for permission to photograph because I know I could be interfering with the customers that are there to buy.
Here in Miami we have a place called Fairchild Gardens where flowers from practically all over the world are found and the guides are always willing to offer all kind of explanations about the flowers.

Fairchild Gardens sounds fantastic! There are some very nice botanical gardens in Orlando but I hate to brave the traffic down that way.

Good advice. I use the florist shop in one of the local grocery stores. I just asked the manager, and she said it was fine. The flowers were nicer condition than Lowe's and HE. I worked with the orchids, mainly.

That is a good idea, too. My favorite grocery store has both cut flowers and potted plants and they are very pretty! I just might give that a try.

Judging from these excellent shots, you certainly hit upon a great idea.

Thank you, Vicki! It works well for me. Sometimes it takes a bit of extra pp to remove price signs and things like that but it is a good source of potential subjects.
