Beautiful set, Carol but we may have to wait a while for the outside displays at our local store. As usual, yesterday on the way to the grocery store, which is beside Lowes, we always pass by the garden shop to check their inventory out and it looked very sad as not a flower was in sight---but not to worry, it won't stay empty very long! Take care!

Hi, Corky, and thank you. I'll gladly share my flowers! I have wondered what the stores did in colder climates. I guess there wouldn't be much of a market for things to plant outside right now. Our store has an enclosed area with house and patio plants. That's where I found the orchids.

These are beautiful flower photos but I have to tell you - your post made me laugh. Bad weather is relative. As I’m sitting here looking at snow piled on my deck and a temp of -4 degrees, and knowing that no Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart has a garden center open for at least 3 more months, I would willingly take your bad weather day. I guess I could drive 50 miles to the botanical center but I’d need to do it on one of the 2 days or so this week when it wasn’t forcast for snow.

Good point, Walt. At least snow can make very pretty shots so all is not lost. I do know that our weather is friendlier in winter but it can be gloomy, too. I would have guessed they would still have indoor plants but maybe not. Maybe you will just have to wait for spring for flowers.🙂

your local Lowes, Home Depot or other garden center. Most are very tolerant of photographers. You really can't use a tripod and you have to take the setting as is but working your subject will usually minimize distractions. Here are a few shots from a bad weather visit to Lowes.

Outstanding Carol. You get better lighting in the store as you do in the bright outside sun.

When I visit Home Depot I always roam around the garden section. You are right, there are many beautiful flowers there. I have never asked for permission to photograph because I know I could be interfering with the customers that are there to buy.
Here in Miami we have a place called Fairchild Gardens where flowers from practically all over the world are found and the guides are always willing to offer all kind of explanations about the flowers.

Good advice. I use the florist shop in one of the local grocery stores. I just asked the manager, and she said it was fine. The flowers were nicer condition than Lowe's and HE. I worked with the orchids, mainly.

Excellent idea! I'm a sucker for Orchids, particularly the Ladies Slippers variety! So, #2 really appeals to me. It's so sharp it appears to jump out of the frame! I saw a similar one at a Lowe's in Rockledge/Cocoa, FL, in Dec. I purchased the green/white one. All are great shots! Thanks for sharing with us!
